I think Gunney is talking about his PA-63.
Also, I have had zero problems with the 22# recoil spring and 20# hammer spring installed in my P64.

Back to Factory Hammer Spring?
I'm sure that redfestiva was just pulling papabears leg a little. That being said, I do believe that I'm going back to the light side of the force and replace the hammer spring with the factory spring and carry in de-cocked mode. I'm sure that I will better with the extra weight of the factory spring in place. As we all know, 0% errors is all that is acceptable when carrying concealed.

Back to Factory Hammer Spring?
At first I was paranoid of carrying with one in the chamber. After giving it some thought I realized that it is no different than carrying a loaded revolver. All one has to do is pull the trigger to fire a round. Now I carry with a round in the chamber , hammer down and saftey off. My holster covers the trigger and with a factory hammer spring it takes conciderable pull to cock the hammer back. I feel like it is safe. If I need to use the P-64 in a hurry I just draw the pistol and pull the trigger or cock the hammer and pull the trigger.

I changed my main spring back to factory several weeks ago and still have a 20# recoil spring. It just felt better to me, so I agree with Gunny and Bzingg and you other guys. I think the Polish gun guys had a good idea and a reason for doing what they did.

Just let me be quite clear about what my practice is. I carry with a full mag and one in the chamber with the safety on.

The discussion on how you carry; round in chamber w/safety on, etc. got me to thinking (OK don't laugh, I do think sometime) LMAO!
Anyway, I also collect P.38 pistols and after reading this thread, I took a look at ones that I have. I had always noticed that the paint in the F & S (fire/safe) had different wear patterns, but never really thought why. The White paint in the "Safe" mode would tend to be more worn that the the Red in the "Fire" mode. Reading this thread made me think that the Germans carried the P.38 with a round in the chamber ond the pistol on "Safe". Doing this would cause more wear on the white paint since the red was covered by the Safety Lever. This is normal for combat soldiers, but just never put 2 and 2 together on the paint.
Thanks to this thread, it made me think a little and realize the Germans carried them with a round in the chamber and on safe.

abwehr, I know how much of a hassle raising p38's can be. So If you get tired of having to admire the craftsmanship every day, and you decide to just throw one of those away, slip it in an fedex box and send it my way instead.
sort of related announcment, I've decided to back away from purchasing any more guns for the time being, so I can focus soley on stocking up on ammo. I've begun to hate having to buy up all the 9x18 stocked in my local store (very little to begin with) and run out before more is reordered, and there seem to be some good deals going around with 7.62x54r, and a little bug in my head is saying "buy as much as possible!" Either this bug was planted by ammunition companies or we may soon have some ammo cost problems.
