problem with PA-63 mag
Just got a second mag for this gun, and unlike the mag that came with the gun, the new one does not lock into place unless you hit it hard. Can it be fixed?

problem with PA-63 mag
the second mag does pop out about half way when released, like it should, unlike the original one which comes out about 1/8". The second mag is shiny and smooth, the original has very little wear and has a "flat" or brushed appearance, possibly making it stick when released.
problem with PA-63 mag
you could try putting a light ammout of oil on the mag, or perhaps the part of the mag that scrapes on the mag release when putting a mag in /taking it out is not shaped correctly and may need to be filed down

I still think its in the mag release button , because the mag should pop all the way out of the gun when pushed, especially if its a loaded mag, the one I took apart and cleaned the spring in it will eject a unloaded mag all the way out

problem with PA-63 mag
mikeh1,
Is the mag that you are having problems with a "new" after market mag or a new to you used mag. I personally don't have any experiences with the "new" after market mags, but have seen and heard that some of them can cause problems due to the spec's of the mag.........ie., spring to long, follower out of spec, etc, this shouldn't be a problem but can be. All the mags that I have had [ 20 something] that came with my P-64's all but two performed great, but the two that didn't, I had to break down and soak it paint thiner because of cosmo and debris and then dry it completely and then oil it really well before I put it back together and no problems since. Also as anj suggested, take the grips off and check the inside of the around the grip frame for debris and or roughness were the mags slides in. I did have one P-64 that the grips screw was to tight and it caused the mag not to go in with out jamming it in and same with taking it out, it would only pop out sightly and I had to pull it out, the grips were the import thumb rest grips, I since got rid of all of them.
Other wise, Norm's idea of the release button is probably correct, cosmo could be the problem there too. Remember, these pistols have been stored for years and could have anything caked in there, I have heard on this board many times that "I cleaned it really good" and yet it still have cosmo and debris in it, it needs to be soaked in paint thinner or diesel fuel for several hours when you first get it, it will eliminate about 98% of any problems this pistols will have. Having said that, It will not lessen the DA pull.
However, as for myself, I have not had to replace any of the springs in any of my [5] P-64's that I have had, the DA pull in each of my P-64's loosened up after probably 500 rds, I still prefer the some what heavy DA pull as a safety factor for I carry with one in the chamber and the de-cocker/safety off, but this is just me and I don't recommend this is unless you have practiced and practiced carrying in this mode, and it is second nature to you. Just my $0.02 worth.

Good talkin to you Norm.
I will be returning the mag; the floorplate is loose, and no matter how I tweak the slide tab on the mag, it still doesn't seat in the gun unless slapped hard. Hopefully they have some better ones to replace this one.
