Wolf Military Classic
Has anyone tried out Wolf Military Classic in their P64? I tried it today and it had a FTF on the 2nd round.
I had loaded my magazine with 6 rounds of Wolf Military classic. The first round chambered ok when I cocked the slide back and let go. The 2nd round in the magazine had a FTF on the way in the chamber.
I wish it'd been a better time at the range to try it again, but there were lots of folks there, kids on lanes on either side of me. I'd forgotten my toolbox too, so I figured I'd try it another time. Too many RO's and onlookers today to really try it a couple of times.
Before I tried the Wolf Military Classic, I fired 48 rounds of S&B military copper wash stuff in the white box. After the Wolf Military Classic FTF, I proceeded to fire 96 more rounds of S&B white box without a single FTF or other hitch (6 rounds to a mag each time).
Are you guys having good luck with Wolf Military Classic?
I plan on trying out the Wolf Military Classic in my CZ82 and my Mak, later.

I asked the same Question the other day and Norm sent me some good advice via weblinks that discuss Wolf Ammo Failures . they are very eye opening. IF you shoot the rest, might i suggest you use the other two guns . I have heard the CZ82 and Makarov pistols have larger/stronger frames, and might be better suited to those loads. IMO.
Here is what Norm sent:

Wolf Military Classic
Thanks Garry.
I knew the old Wolf was not too good. I decided to try the new Wolf Military Classic which has the soft clear coating vice the gray polymer coating when they mostly sold the 9x18 coneheads.
I think the soft clear coating is the problem on mine. I suspect a black polymer coating with a rounded vice cone bullet would work fine.
The coating was gouged on the round that had the FTF.
Incidentally, the post you found by Leif is the same as Nbender, he is Nbender.
Did you inquire about 95gr Wolf Military Classic? It is new. The older 100gr and 109gr ammo are for sure stuff I would not use on my P64 even if some have success with it.
I think that many of the types of ammo Wolf makes are still coming with the black/gray polymer coating, though I don't know from experience. Just the pictures I've seen and posts I've read.
Thanks for the suggestions Garry. I will try the ammo on my CZ82, P83 and Mak.
I was hoping Wolf made a quality round in 9x18. I'm not too sure on that now.

No problem ! it was fun ! lol ---yea i know what you mean about shooting/getting more Wolf Ammo.
I had originally asked about "what, in particular , was giving a bad name to the 7.62x39 Wolf mil classic Ammo?" (or Wolf Ammo in ANY cal.) ,
I still have a couple hundred 7.62x39 Ammo left and will go ahead and shoot them thru my chinese SKS ,and then, I will start reloading my own . I have everything that I need now, except for the die set . I bought Winchester brass and Hodgdon 4835 powder and a couple of different bullet types to try out !
Anyways , NormSutton said he "won't use Wolf Ammo" ,and I asked him why and he was kind enough to give me those links . Good reading stuff ,huh?
methinks, G

I wish you guys wouldn't use wolf ammo in your P-64's all its going to take is one pierced primer and you will lose the extractor and you will ether have to sell the gun for parts or buy a extractor from me at $ 40. to $50. a pop , there are very fu parts out there for the P-64 and ones that are , are not the ones that brake or get lost
I know some of you have shot over thousands of rounds wolf ammo with any misshape's but it only takes one and I know you can have this happen with any ammo but it's way to camion in wolf ammo

I clicked on NBenders analysis posted on another board (link provided by Garry) and I know I can't be the only person feeling like this...I have no idea what any of this means!!
Yah, I get the muzzle velocity and the basic data but I don't understand how I can interpret the data to help me make a decision as to which ammo will (should) perform most reliably.
There is a bunch of information about the bullet weight, casing material, weather, location of manufacture and I understand it is all necessary to make the comparisons but I really need to know which ammo is available, a value or not for the price and reliable from best to worst. That should be the next step to make this data useful to all, I don't if it is possible to get that from this data.
And I certainly don't mean to diminish the work of NBender or anyone else that has spend time and effort (not to mention money) to compile this info.
Help!

Yes, I'm North Bender on Gunboards. I couldn't register here with a 2-name handle so I shortened up.
I've limited my posts here since I've developed a board stalker who posted that he doesn't like me and that he knows my name. That post would have a person banned in a heartbeat on a more rigorously moderated forum.
But to respond to carguy - I started cataloging 9x18 ammunition several years ago as a hobby, and because there was no comprehensive database available. The sticky on the Makarov forum is intended to show cartridge compositions, velocities, and such information as manufacturer, bullet weights, and some history behind what's been available in the past. So if a shooter comes across some obscure out-of-print ammo, he has some reference to see what it is and how it performs. I don't remember posting a bunch of information on the weather. The velocity parameters I listed are standard for flight ballistics testing, and in fact many chronographs now days come with statistical packages which list those parameters.
There is some other information that's usefull - there have been manufacturer's who've listed their velocities as over 1100 fps, and testing showed much less. Some botique manufacturer's listed the bullet weights wrong, have horrible consistency, or, in one case, the bullet came apart during handling. If you are thinking of buying from a small U.S. source I hope reviewing the data could help make a decision.
As far as reliability, that varies between pistols and it's pretty hard to make blanket statements. That sort of information is best found in the experiences of board members who post here.
As far as availability, that changes by the hour and a person would have to devote time each day to keep up with what the Russians are exporting, much less the other countries.
Regarding Wolf - the old 109-grain was just absolutely notorious. It's a good thing nobody got seriously hurt using it. The 100-grain coneheads don't have that reputation, but it's hard to trust such a round from Wolf. The new Wolf Military Classic is made in a different plant in Russia than the coneheads were, with a rounded nose, and the jury's still out on it's performance. But it's built to standard specs and may prove to be a real decent round.

Thanks, like I said I read the posts and just wasn't sure with my limited knowledge of ammo what I could derive from it. I remember some others posting regarding the temperature and even questioning the humidity up in the far northwest and how it might effect the bullets performance. So that is where I got that info.
Anyways, I just was hoping to get more out of your data than I seemed to be able to do.
Thanks

nbender,
I'm no stalker, Lief. You're blowing this thing all out of proportion. The context of our exhanges will not support your accusations. You may be able to chrono rounds and post the results, and we all appreciated it, but I don't think that makes you the most expert firearms enthusiast on board here, and I don't know why you couldn't become civil when I suggested we just drop it and move on. GET OVER IT. Not everybody is going to think you're the cat's meow, especially when you make critical remarks about other peoples opinions and start picking their posts apart trying to make them look bad, which is what you did to me after I took Steve's side when you criticized him for one of his helpful posts. That burned you a little bit, and you haven't let up since. Now, you owe me an apology for characterizing me in an untruthful way. I have been owning and shooting P-64s for quite a while now, and I like the pistol and promoted it on this forum and others. You have made your name public yourself, and my little post saying, in essence, be a "good Christen, son, and Lief well enough alone", was just what I thought was a humorous and clever way of suggesting that you forgive and forget so we could drop the animosity and continue as friends. YOU'VE GOT A CLASSIC CHIP ON YOUR SHOULDER, afraid everybody won't give you all the respect and credit you think you are due. I haven't attacked you, just defended myself FROM YOUR ACCUSATIONS, and the way you twist my meaning to suit your argument. Get over it, and get over yourself.
Add edit: This is my absolute final word on this stupid subject.

That's what I mean.
I've had disagreements on boards before, and I've been corrected before, having participated in forums for a while. But never personal attacks.
