Questions about my new P-64

Post by wfems05 »

I recently bought a P-64 in order to have a CCW that is a little more concealable then my duty Sig or personal Glock. Also a handgun that is comfortable for my wife to shoot.

Seeing as I am used to a Sig and Glock I am new to a gun with a manual safety. Obviously before anything I disassemble the weapon and cleaned, lubricated, and inspected it. I then did some function checks. When reading about the P-64 there seems to be some confusion. I orignally read that it was a three stage safety. Starting from the top you had fire, in the middle was safe but cocked, and all the way down was safe and decocked. This checked out in my functions checks. However, I have also read that it is only a two stage safety Fire and safe decocked.

When I went to the range for a live fire test I noticed some abnormalities. When The safety was in the middle it would not fire but was still cocked (ok so cocked and locked) when switching to fire it performed well. However, when I moved the safety all the way down to decock, is where I had some problems. From the decock posistion it would not fire, good. However, when I moved the safety to fire, the trigger was slack as if it was still in safe. I tried pulling the hammer back for a double action trigger and encounterd the same problem.

Does anyone have any information that could help with this? I look forward to reading your responses and thank you in advanced for your time.
