New gun/Slight problem

New to the board and glad I found this place.

Just got my P-64 at the gun show today. Has "PW Arms Redmond, VA" printed on one side. And "ZM LUCZNIK" printed right underneath that. Not sure how that fits into the realm of P-64's, but no matter. I really like this weapon. In fact, I jus shot a box of 50 rounds at the range and WOW! What an awesome little gun. No recoil to speak of. Even my 14 year old son loves to shoot it. Hit the target deadon at 15 yards. Shot the center out of it. In fact, I find it more accurate than my Walther P-1.

One small problem, though.

Works great in SA. In DA, the gun will dry fire. (Yes, I know it's not good to do so...but) For some reason, when there is a shell in the chamber, there is no way I can shoot it. The hammer goes back to a point and stops. I know the gun has a bad reputation when it comes to tough trigger pull. This, however doesn't seem to be due to a super-stiff trigger. I just won't go back past a certain point.

Anyone else have this problem in the past? If so, what was the solution?

I'll post some photos of this little gem. Really happy with this purchase.

ZM Lucznik is the manufacturer of the gun. PW Arms is the importer.

Does the trigger just stop and not go any more? I'm trying to figure out what you mean by it "goes back to a point and stops." When shooting double action, the hammer will never come back as far in DA as it will when it locks back in SA before it goes back forward. Take an empty case and do some experimenting with it and maybe give some more detail on the problem. A video may be helpful as well.

I find that it is much easier to shoot my P-64 accurately than my Walther P-1. I like my P-1; I love my P-64!

Did you thoroughly clean and, in turn, lube your P-64 well? I used a can of Gunscrubber (the white can that is synthetic safe; the black can will take the finish off of wood stocks and I am afraid to use it on plastic) to clean mine when I first got it. There was lots of grease in the nooks and crannies and the cleaning/lubing greatly helped with the functioning, especially the double action trigger.

Thanks for the input. I'll make sure to clean the gun according to specs.

Junius Taylor: Sorry for not describing it better. What happens is when I pull the trigger in DA, it only goes so far and I can't get it back any further. The hammer goes back to strike position but stops. Won't go any further. I'll try posting a video today using an empty round.

You may also want to change out the hammer spring to say, 19#. Will make a world of difference.
