primer dent - why?

Post by 724wd »

i pack my P-64 daily in a galco IWB, one in the tube, safety off. well... i DID carry it like that. i've noticed the primer of the round in the tube has a dent in it (has happened on more than one shell) just from carrying the gun. it has never fallen, i don't screw around with it... why would the firing pin be contacting the shell? it functions and shoots flawlessly... ???

thanks guys!

Yikes! I can see why that would be a concern. Doesn't Wolf have the firing pin springs?

primer dent - why?

724wd,
Assuming you load the chamber by inserting a mag and letting the slide fly home, it may be a weak firing pin spring. You could verify this next time you'r shooting it. Just stop while shooting, drop the mag and eject the chambered round for inspection. If it is dented it's by firing pin inertia.
The Wolff extra power recoil springs have the appropriate firing pin spring with them. Increasing the recoil spring force increases the slide speed and firing pin inertia.
Neither of my P-64s exhibit this problem. One has the 20 lb recoil spring and the other the 22 lb. Both have the included firing pin springs installed.

thanks fellas. when loading, i i do so with the safety on, insert mag, pull back slide, ease it forward, hold hammer and ease it down as well. i dont allow it to slam forward, and that hammer dropping when on safe always scares me... :o
