Enfield No.5 and LL Victory

Here are my British Enfield No.5 Jungle Carbine with a WWII WSC [Wilkirson Sword Co.] S294 bayonet and scabbard and WWII P37 sling along with a '42 Lend Lease 5" Victory S&W .38/200 [.38S&W short] and '44 RAF P37 holster along with a WWII P37 ammo pouch with '44 surplus .303 in WWII stripper clips and WWII P37 backpack. If you look close at the butt plate on the N0.5 it has a rubber butt plate pad which is original issue for the Jungle Carbine and if you ever shoot one you'll see why they put it there.

Papabear..that is one fine looking rifle. I really like the looks and shootability of some of the old guns and the one you have there looks in A-1 condition!!

I have a friend here in Lakeland he says that the No. 5 Enfield kicks worse than his M39

For me the Finn M39 is mild compared to the No.5 Jungle carbine, as a matter of fact it will out kick the Mosin Nagants carbines, IMO, the only rifle I have that can rate with the No.5 for pure kicking is my Hungarian Steyr Mannlicher M95 7.62x54r, and the only reason it is maybe worse is it doesn't have the rubber butt stock.

I actually enjoy shooting the MN carbines and No.5 carbine, the recoil for me is a reminder of what it was like back then compared to the powder puffs rifles of today with the exception of the .308 rifles. I am just use to and enjoy collecting and shooting the WWI & WWII rifles.

Do tell more about the LL Victory please. I am not familier with that round, but I am very interested in learning more about it.

Wilkerson you say? Right then.

Do you remember the TV commercial in the 1970's with the two British Guards bearing their sharpened Wilkersons inviting you to find a closer shave?

I was born in 1965, but I still to this day shave with a double edged straight razor. You can, and I do, still buy Wilkerson blades. They are still made in England too!

Yes I remember the commericals and I have used their blades, its been a long time though. The Lend Lease Victories were mainly sent to England and they sent them to other countries, Australia, Canada and South Africa, here is a site with a lot of info on the Victories.

Minw was shipped in 1942 to England, there are no marking on it to show it went any other place besides England, normally the grips would be smooth walnut but these grips are pre-war and I've not been able to find out anything as to why they are on the pistol, I picked this Victory up at a gun show for $250 OTD three years ago as you see it here. The field pack and ammo pouch in the pic are WWII era P-37 webb field gear.

As for the ammo, the British prefered the .38/200 round, why I have no idea, but we call it a .38S&W or .38 short.
