My bloody trigger finger
:-/
Hi All,
I finally took my 1971 P-64 to the range after purchasing it on GunBroker in Jan. 2007.
That little POS really tore my trigger finger up! Maybe I'm a big guy who shouldnt be using such a small gun. I'm 6'5" 290#(gained 50# after I quit smoking) anyway, like I was saying this little gun tore me up!
I had to have a low grip on it because I didnt want any bloody tracks on the web of my shooting hand from the rails-that was OK keeping a low grip on it. But that double action trigger pinched the hell out of my trigger finger.I was trying to use the first joint of my trigger finger, but still got pinched bloody!
And the transition from double to single taps was really ackward(sp?)-I couldnt,or didnt shoot more than 50 rounds thru it.
Some observations on ammo: Wolf 100 gr. fmj ammo BLOWS-I had 3 or 4 failures to fire on double action!!!-hit it again, and fired. One round I had to fire double action twice before it touched off.-I dont care how cheap that ammo is,I'd NEVER buy anymore!
Hornady 95 gr. jhp/xtp ammo was very reliable(&expensive)-that ammo fed fine with only one jam.-And it's strange what happened-I saw the jam,and racked it back again, when the shell hit the feedramp,it pushed the bullet in about 1/4"!!!-very strange!!!-I'm writing Hornady about that-otherwise I shot 3,or 4 full mags of it and it fed fine.
Then I had some Serbian Privitan,(sp?),and some Selliot,Bellot(sp?),fmj and those fed ok also.
I was starting to think that the Hornady would be the best, and deadliest load UNTIL that 1 jam pushed the bullet way back into the case!! I really don't know how safe,or confident I would feel using this gun for a CCW.-I think I would feel better equipped with my wifes Chiefs Special Lady Smith with 158 gr. lead round nose in my belt!-only problem with that model 60 is its very limited as to how much +P you should put thru it according to the manual.-Which means to me,+P shouldnt be used at all, unless you want to loosen it up fast.
I,m sorry to say, that I,m not to impressed with the little gun from Poland.-Dont know if I'd want to bet my life on it!!!
BUT,I havent given up-I'm going to take it to the range again(probably the last time!!)-if it did ever jam up on me,I could always use it as a brick. :'(
Anyone have the same experience as me??- It's just to small for my hand to shoot comfortably, and I'd never buy any WOLF ammo again, and thats real frigin strange what happen to that one Hornady XTP round.-Just when I was starting to think I found the magic defense round.
The recoil wasnt that bad at all.I dont understand why some say it really kicks etc.
Would appreciate any feedback on my experience ,my first experience with my 1971 'P-64" OR any one want to trade??
thanks guys,
Don

WOW! I can't understand how it cut up your trigger finger ???
I can see the web of your hand especially if you're a big guy or have big hands. I'm 6' and weight in about the same as you (I'm short for my weight) and never had a problem with either the web or trigger finger. Where on your finger? Did you finger get caught under the trigger? Can't picture how it got pinched and bloodied!
Interesting dilemma...don't give up on it yet...it really is a nice little pistol. One of the best I own. As far as ammo goes...yup Wolf sucks (for most...some people swear by it...not me). I love Silver Bear and have never had a problem with FMJ or hollow points. Sellier & Belloit is great (not cheap). Never shot Hornady and don't think I will after your experience.
I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions. Hang in there

In all fairness the reason there are so many guns on the market is that not everyone is comfy with everything! One of my brothers swears by Glock but I think it is an over rated you know what. If it doesn't fit you then try something else. I like this gun and want more. Hey this forum is the first place I have heard folks talk about how they like Hi-point. Send me a pm here and we could make a deal.

I had the same problem with the Hornady. I found Stars and Stripes Gold Dots first, but he kind of priced himself off the planet. Then I picked up some Georgia Arms Gold Dots at a much better price. Never had any problem chambering the Gold Dots. I think the smaller HP and more rounded nose is the ticket in feeding up the ramp. YMMV!
Also Wolff springs are your friends!!

Have you tried Corbon Powerball for a defensive load? I would think that it would be a good choice for any Mak caliber pistol since none were designed to use HP ammo.

;DI'm sorry, I can't respond to this due to donw's second post, I'm still laughing, thanks donw, brother, you made my day!LOL,LOL,LOL.

pow-r-balls are all I use in my P-64s for defense.

I had no major problems until the last 2 or 3 times I went shooting my P-64s. Why would it suddenly start bothering my trigger finger? I don't know. Will see if I can figure it out on future visits to the range. I have been using Military Classic.carguy wrote:WOW! I can't understand how it cut up your trigger finger ???

military classic works great in mine! I didn't have any problems with the box of wolf that came with my P-64 and I love the classic. What I don't understand is why the same gun has different reactions with different ammo in regards to all the different people here. I wonder if the 9x18 market is so unstable or were they unstable at Radom when these babys were made. Unless of course they just have additude problems like us owners have!!!!!!!
PS. I hope I don't sound like too much of a dumbass but I don't know what powerball is help me out?

Pow-R=ball is a HOT bullet that has a poly ball formed in the large hp. The way its made, it looks like a fmj & feeds the same.

I could probably feed my p64 twigs and pebbels, although I'm not sure it would fire ::)michaelap wrote:What I don't understand is why the same gun has different reactions with different ammo in regards to all the different people here.

Twigs will put your eye out.

So the pow-r-ball won't make it explode on the first shot eh? What recoil spring would you recommend for use with them?
