NEW TOY (the sequel)
After gun show hunting this morning and driving to 4 gun shops this afternoon I finally came home with a new Springfield Armory Champion 1911A1 GI model. I can't wait to take it to the range.

Springfield makes a sub-compact version of their Mill-Spec 1911 M1A that I almost bought before I found my Cobra Patriot. The Springfield Champion is a beautiful pistol with every thing the average guy could want from a 1911 M1A design. Very very nice!
It's hard to understand how Colt let the competition get the best of it. John Browning would absolutely roll over in his grave, stand up and cheer to see what has become of his beloved 1911 design.
Congratulations on you purchase, love the grips!

Can't see the front sight in that photo but it's there. It's small like the P-64. You can see it in this photo.nice!

I bought my brother in law on for Christmas year before last and that rascal has not fired it yet. So, redfestiva, if ya don't mind when you take it to the range, let me know how she shoots. I think you have a darn fine pistol there IMO.

redfestiva,
My brother in law in FL. has the Springy Gov GI model 1911A1, he really likes it and I have shot it too and I really like it, at 50 ft it was accurate for us both. The Springy are nice pistols, I have not had the opportunity to shoot the shorter version of it so I look forward to your range report. BTW, thanks for sharing the pic of your Springfield Armory Champion.

I went to the range today for the first time with the Springer 45. At first I was all over the place. I'd never fired a 45 before and I was anticipating the perceived recoil. Actuallly I was surprised to find the recoil very tame, tamer than the P-64 in fact. What did catch me off guard was the massive blast. I'm used to shooting 9mm & 38 special and the BANG is something I have to get used to. I was flinching alot at first but I began to settle down and bring the rounds into my target eventually. This was my last target / last 7 round magazine. I think once I'm used to the big bang I'll settle into the target. The distance was 15 yards. I can get a 4-5" group with the P-64 at that distance but the two guns are hardly comparable., plus I'm used to shooting the P-64. The best part is it shot without a hitch. Fun gun!
