Slide won't release

Recently bought a P-64 with one magazine. Love the accuracy on SA and how compact it is.

On SA the P-64 shot great. But when I put in a full clip, when I pull the slide back to load it locks in the open position. To get the slide to close after pulling it back, I have to push on the magazine which then causes the slide to release. I figure it might be something
with the magazine.

Couple of interesting things with this: It doesn't do it (lock in the
open/back position) if the magazine only has 2 or 3 rounds in it, and
when I fire it DA the slide usually would lock open until
I push on the magazine which would again cause the slide to
release.

Anyone else have any experience with this, or any suggestions?

If I buy a new magazine, what are the chances that it will do the same thing with the new one, or it this likely to be the cure?

take off the side and look at the side stop and the slide stop spring
there are some good pictures of that on this site

but I think you may have a broken slide stop spring bent wrong
