Papabear ... I'm glad that yours are doing well. From looking at the insides of the grips, it is pretty clear that there are some areas that end up pretty thin. I think that it may be the luck of the draw on the wood replacements. I'm thinking that it might even be possible to epoxy bed the high stress points. It would be a lot of work, but I really prefer the way the wood feels (not to mention the way it looks!).

4bfox,

It was an exercise in frustration! My friend who did this is a very bright individual and mechanically adept. He had some problems, but we were able to get it in and I am pleased to say that it functions perfectly.

Thanks to all. I learn so much on this excellent site!

Saands,
Sorry to hear about the grips, I just sent an email off to Dennis requesting prices shipped for a set of Red dyed Checkered Black Walnut grips with thumb rest for one of my P64 pistols and a set of Red dyed Black Walnut Checkered flat grips for my PA63. When I queried him earlier last month he suggested that this was the way to go. You didn't mention if the grips were flat or with thumb rest in your listing and I would be interested to know as it may make a difference in what I order. It seems that the Wattle grips are holding up just fine at the range, not having them glued could be the answer. My be I will just use them for presentation and not on my carry pistol, man they sure are pretty.
Thanks in advance for the information................ G.R.

Mine were flat and checkered ... but I don't think that THAT matters. They started to fail at the very top of the backstrap, so flat or thumbrest would be the same there. This may be the walnut pair, I ordered them unfinished and BLO'd them, so I honestly can't tell which was which :)

Look great, nothing ... they FEEL great ... that's what makes me think that they are worth the effort to make work

I know that there was a problem with the first couple of sets but that was addressed. I saw what was to be improved on paper and when I got my new set they were beefed up in the area in question. I have had my 64 out to the range twice and have had no problems what so ever. The grips were made of Zembrano wood ( I think that is right) , but I am not sure the wood makes too much of a differance (some but not much). If you do have a problem make sure to contact Dennis or whoever else made your grips, It seems like all the sellers here stand behind their work.

When I received my springs there was no way I could get them to seat. When comparing the two springs I noticed the Wolff Gun springs were round on the end and the originals were not. Off to the lab and flattened the ends of the springs on the good old Red Wing Lathe and it drooped right in. My guess is that at full compression the Wolff gun springs are three millimeters longer than the originals, or that there were milling changes to the slide from one generation to another. Regardless, I think these little dynamos are a terrific investment for some one who is enthusiastic about European hand guns , and certainly adequate for concealed carry................ G.R.
