.380 barrel for P64
.380 barrel for P64
I am trying to find someone with a lathe to make a .380 barrel for one of my P64s. I can get the barrel blank cheap but I have no way to contour it to make it fit the frame and slide. If anyone can help please let me know.
FYI if anyone is interested the barrel dimensions are:
14mm x 23.8mm at the chamber
12.75mm x 60.55mm under the spring
84.35mm over all length
The barrel on mine tapped out easily once i removed the barrel pin.

Just curious.....why?
Maybe you should just buy a PPK.

Re: .380 barrel for P64
I got a P64 that was a training gun. The chamber of the barrel was cut and the firing pin hole was welded over on the slide. I want to return the gun to working condition and since P64 barrels are imposible to find I was going to convert it to .380
The gun was under $50 so it is just a fun project for me.

I just saw a barrel and frame the other day on some gun auction site for around $60 bucks, if I can find it I will post it. I'm guessing a custom made barrel would cost more than a new gun.
Re: .380 barrel for P64
The problem is in order to make the barrel correctly, one would need a chamber reamer, and go/no-go gauges. If I had them I would offer to do it, but I have neither.wpoulton wrote:I got a P64 that was a training gun. The chamber of the barrel was cut and the firing pin hole was welded over on the slide. Re: .380 barrel for P64
The barrel blank will only cost me about $20 so if I can have someone do the metal work for a reasonable price I will ba able to save the gun and have matching serial numbers on the frame and slide.
I am willing to do the finishing work. Chamering, headspacing and cutting the extractor slot I just can't do the external work on the barrel.

Here is a photo of what the gun loked like before I started.

I have removed the red paint and have opened the firing pin hole in the slide. Once I have a barrel I am going to parkerize the frame and slide.

So you can or can't chamber, headspace, and cut the extractor slot. From the pictures you took, it seem the barrel mount will still have a slot cut in it when its finished.wpoulton wrote:The barrel blank will only cost me about $20 so if I can have someone do the metal work for a reasonable price I will ba able to save the gun and have matching serial numbers on the frame and slide.

I can get a chamber reamer and a head space gauge but I don't have a lathe. I am going to have a friend tig weld the slot in the barrel mount once I have a barrel.
Re: .380 barrel for P64
I'm putting this project on hold for now. I found a source of P64 parts guns and I'm going to get one and use the barrel for the restoration.

Re: .380 barrel for P64
It is Century Arms. I am having an issue getting them to send me the parts gun. I placed an order for a P64 over a month ago and yesterday the cancelled it saying that the P64 is not a C&R gun. So today I spent an hour on the phone with them and redid my order. Once the parts come in I am going to be selling off the anything I don't need. Will post more info when I have the parts in hand.
For anyone that is interested Century has P64 training guns cheap. If you want more info on the training gun I have thread started on one that I am using for a project.

Re: .380 barrel for P64
This makes little sense. The 9x18 ammo is cheaper than 380 in many cases. Hornady makes a great critical defense load. Red army standard and Tula make great plinking ammo. Silver bear may or may not be available in hollow points. If you reload, even more possibilities arise.
To add insult to injury, the 9x18 round may well pack a bigger punch than the smaller 9x17 380 round does. If anything, it makes more sense to get a PPK to take 9x18!!
