Slide locked back

Post by yourfns »

Hi All,
When shooting today my slide locked back and it won't budge forward at all. The trigger guard doesn't move either. The magazine is removed. I whacked it with a soft face mallet to no avail. I have a feeling the recoil spring might be bound up? Any ideas?
Thank you for any suggestions.

Have you tried tapping the front of the barrel with the soft mallet?

Place it in a padded vice first, if a bound spring that may shake it free.

I'm thinking hard on what would make the trigger guard itself not to move. I'm not seeing a bound spring causing something like that. I took a gander at mine. If the slide is all the way back, the trigger guard cannot move because the slide is up against the lug of the trigger guard. I don't believe the spring would cause the slide to hang up. Are you sure the barrel is not bulged?

Does it appear that the slide lock isn't bound up? Check for that and the barrel condition.

I have to gain access to a vise and my batteries on my bore light died. I will continue to work on it and post the results.
Thank you all!

Yes my barrel is bulged. I was shooting Wolf ammo and had a dud. The primer fired but there must have been no powder in the case. I ejected the empty case but didn't realize that the bullet was lodged in the barrel and fired again. A VERY STUPID MOVE ON MY PART. It was a situation I've never encountered before because duds are so rare in factory ammo. Boy I really feel like an idiot, what a rookie move. Well nobody was hurt and now I have to buy a new P-64.
Again Thanks for your help!

Maybe you can salvage some parts on it if you can get it apart.

Bummer dude. Sorry to hear that the barrel is indeed bulged. There was no other idea that I could think of other than that. You'll have some spare parts now when you buy a new one.

Yeah I'll use it for parts. I have 5 mags and 10 boxes of ammo and the Wolff spring kit and a holster.
I loved that gun :(

^ Let me know if you plan to sell anything; I could always use some mags, parts, and ammo!

Great call on that juniustaylor. The buzzards are circling, it must be dead.

Wolf ammmo right. I guess this can to any ammo but it had to happen to Wolf. I know a lot of people do not like wolf because of hard primmers and pierced primmers. Now they can add this to their list. I need to remember this and thanks for sharing because if a shot sounds odd or weak---STOP and check for barrel obstruction.

Yeah I'll buy another one because I like it a lot. I never had a problem with Wolf but no powder in the case is something I would expect from a reload. I'm going to stick with Silver/Brown Bear from now on.

Thanks to juniustaylor and this forum for answers to all things P-64

Stuff like this can and does happen to every brand of ammo. It really doesn't matter the manufacturer, when they're putting out thousands upon thousands of rounds out a day, it is only a matter of time before something happens. I personally have not experienced a factory round with an issue but I have saw many on the internet. Everything from bullets seated backwards, bullet deformed, crushed case, no extractor groove, no flash-hole and the list goes on and on. The important thing is like fully machined said, if it doesn't sound right or doesn't seem right, definitely check the gun to make sure there is no issue. Mistakes and accidents happen. I am glad that you were not hurt yourfns and that you've come here and asked a question and I'm glad I could provide an answer. I hope you stick around. Take care!
