Trigger pull weight for P-64

Post by LT BOB »

The following is how I reduced the double action pull on my two P64s purchased from Aim.
I first weighed the single action pull weight on the two p-64s and then on a Walther PPKS. All three were 3
and one half to three and threequarter lbs. The double action on the P-64s was terrable. The Walther was firm but very easy to use. I could not weigh the double action pull on any of the guns, as my weights only went to five lbs.
I removed the hammer spring from 1 P-64 and cut off one and onehalf coils with a Dremel. Then I filed down the sharp end of the spring.Reinstalled the spring and weighed the single action pull it was still three and onehalf to three and threequarter. NO CHANGE. Light but not unsafe The double action was very close to the Walther PPKS and not at all objectable.

I then did the same to my other P-64 and had the same results. Much improved double action and no change to the three and onehalf single action. The P-64 is almost the same as the PPKS.

So one and onehalf coils off the hammer spring resulted for me a pistol thats still safe and has a double action that allows one to aim and fire using normal finger power.
I was going to see the P-64s but now that they have pull equal to my PPKS I will keep them

Welcome to the forum Bob, nice mod and thanx for sharing.

Did you also change the recoil spring?
