I took out my 'new' P64 today. Having read a bunch on here about the trigger pull, I was surprised to find my trigger seemed like it pulled about like the rest of my DAs and revolvers. A friend at the range had a trigger pull scale. We found the DA was a consistent 17-18 lbs, and the SA was 2-3 lbs. With ammo in the gun it felt a LOT lighter in SA - just touch the trigger and it went off.
I've already ordered the Wolff assortment (17,18,19? lbs) of hammer/main springs. Now I'm wondering if this pistol perhaps had some work done on it in Poland, by a military/police armorer?
Anybody have the same experience?
I'm wondering if I put in the 18 lb spring if it will actually increase trigger pull? (And I'm kinda hoping it does - man, that thing was LIGHT in SA! )

HAHAHAHA, love it! But I ain't even tol' Mama I got this one. Yet....heheheheh
Another thing I noticed is that when I cleaned it, is that to remove the slide takes an inordinate amount of strength to slide it all the way back. I'm beginning to think some Polish dude also did a recoil spring job on this thing. There's not that much recoil when its fired either....
Sounds like some Polish guy did a spring job on that gun. If they do not flatten the ends of the (new) recoil spring it is harder than Hillarys head to get off.
Ok, I'm b-a-a-a-c-k. With Wolff springs. I did some further trigger pulling and found that on DA it pulled repeatedly 16 lbs. On SA it was always at 2 lbs. (Told you it was scary light in SA.)
In examining the Wolff springs I saw that difference in the 18, 19, and 20 lb (no 17#?) springs was length. The longer the spring, the higher the poundage.
When I took out the hammer spring the pistol came with (thanks again Junious, for the great video!) it was shorter than the shortest Wolff spring.
Having read a lot here about the 18 lb being pretty much the spring of choice that's what I put in.
DA = 14lbs, SA = 2lbs. And puttin' that spring in was a palm-of-the-hand buster.
I guess I'll move on to 19 or maybe straight to 20, but I was in my garage sweatin' like a guy in 93-degree weather in Florida. Hey, wait a minnit....!
Well, onwards and upwards, but tomorrowards, if ya get my drift.
If you have any ideas about 19 or 20 lemme hear from ya.
Thanks, guys,
bil
I have a 5 lb sa and a rediculous 245 pound da, or something that requires 2 fingers to pull punches are backordered so waiting on those to do a spring swap.
You can certainly try the 19#. I don't know of many on here that do, but maybe they'll pipe up about their experience with pull. I just know that when I tried going from my 17# up to 18#, I did not like it at all. I took the 18# out and went back to my trusty 17#. The 17# spring doesn't come with the Wolff spring pack and I don't know why. Seems ridiculous to me.
Diesel, you said you're waiting on punches? I don't think I use any punches on mine. Mostly because they're all broken from other dumb projects. I usually end up using a small flat tip screwdriver (those $9 Walmart Winchester kits are awesome). Relatively cheap bits but they work okay. Pins and such typically fall right out if you used something like a paper-clip. My P-64 disassembly kit is pretty much a scribe, small flat tip screwdriver, and a paper-clip for holding the mainspring compressed. The scribe comes in handy when getting the trigger spring back under the stud on the trigger bar.
Can I return this pistol through the post office? I know some outfits require overnight, but I've bought from people and they didn't come overnight....Have to send it back. Maybe they'll send me a label since the gun is defective, so I don't have to pay postage both ways. Come through for me J&G!
No luck at all. I can't get it over a 2 lb draw, no matter what spring I use. Its so light that its dangerous to use. The 2nd shot will just go off, almost like the slam of the slide going back into battery jerks the gun just enough to set it off if your finger is on the trigger. Its almost like an automatic pistol, trouble being the 2nd shot is higher, don't really have time to aim.
bil
Diesel, that is correct. You only need to acquire one if, for some odd reason, your pistol doesn't have one.
Bil, not sure about USPS unless you have a licensed dealer send it back. You'll basically just have to talk with a rep at J&G and see about if they will exchange or do a complete return on it and how to get it back to them. There really isn't any way to change one trigger pull (SA/DA) without also affecting the other. They both hinge on the mainspring and the mechanical advantage is in favor for the SA since it requires virtually no pull.
I don't think I have experienced a double-tap with mine and the 17# spring, but I pull the trigger completely rearward and allow it to reset when the pistol has come back down and is in line for another shot. If you lightly pull the trigger enough for it to go off, I would assume you can basically bump the trigger for that 2nd quick shot.
ill try my spring change soon, i have a 18/19/20 wolff pack, which is weird i always see the 17/19 debate, wondering if i should just call it good at 18?
