.30-30 Win FTX loads

These look awesome. I have loaded .30-30 ammo with the FTX bullets, but used H4895 powder. I got a 1# can of the LEVERevolution powder and have had it for quite a while. I loaded some up tonight. I've never used ball type powder, so it was a different experience. I like it a lot better than the extruded type powders. I loaded them at 35.5 grain compressed loads with my Lee Perfect Powder Measure. Accuracy of the powder measure was DEAD ON with this powder. It was 35.5 about 95% of the time and only fluctuated by 1 tenth of a grain every now and then out of 100 rounds. I'll have to try them out with my Win '94 rifle.

$100 worth of ammo in 100 rounds... cost to load them, $35. Super savings!

...and it's safe to use a pointy bullet like that in a tubular magazine?

Yes, arex, it is. These are the same rubbery-tip FTX bullets that Hornady manufactures and loads in their LEVERevolution line of ammunition. These are for lever action, tube fed magazines.

However, you are correct, if these were regular ballistic tip like the Hornady A-Max then no, they would not be safe to shoot in a tube magazine as they "could" cause a primer detonation and blow the tube out. I'd think it would be messy.

I'm sure you're correct, but I just don't know that I'd be comfortable with it. Is the rubbery part firm enough to keep from bottoming out and hitting the metal behind it? I just haven't heard of these bullets before.

Hornady assures these are 100% safe in tubular magazines. I have used them in my Winchester Mod 94 and have had no problems and I don't have any worries. The rubbery tip is sufficient to flatten and cushion but regains its form again once loaded in the chamber.

Hrrm...I'll give it a lookit. I have a Marlin 336 that could use something better than what I've been putting in it.
