Magazine Disassembly

Post by gear-head »

UPS delivered a P64 today. I'm getting it cleaned up, and want to do the same to the mags. I see a little pin near the finger extension but it doesn't seem to do anything. I searched the board but can't find anything.

How do you get the magazine apart?

Push the pin in.. (it is actually the end of the mag spring) and then slide the base plate off. Do this carefully or you will have parts flying every which way!
Anything I post may be my opinion and not the law... you are responsible to do your own verification.

Blackstone (1753-1765) maintains that "the law holds that it is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer."

Hmm, tried that. I guess I need to work at it some more.

I always use a small screwdriver. While holding the mag upside down, insert it in the side of the mag between the spring's coils near the (now) top of the slot and pull the spring downward. This will release the tension on the spring so you can slide the mag base (also now on the top) off to open the mag.

Make sure not the release the tension on the spring until you cover the opening with your hand--or....you know!?

Then clean the mag and reverse the procedure to assemble.
