Any one own a Star BKS?

Post by gunneyrabbit »

I know that a number of you own Star BM models, I just picked up a Star BKS, StarLight, and have some questions about the pistol. This gun has not had the hole drilled at the leading edge of the slide release catch and I'm wondering if it is safe to shoot this way. The pistol has not had much use but does look like it spent some time in a holster. The bore is excellent and the pistol is as tight as a drum, no noise when wiggled or shaken in battery and demonstrates very smooth operation with an excellent trigger. Only one or two micro spots of rust starting, the worst thing you can say about the finish is that some dunder head took an electric marker and placed the #7 and a reversed lower case H on the right hand side of the slide, very light but disturbing; there are also several light nicks on the frame by the trigger guard on the right hand side of the pistol. I'm at a loss to shoot it as it is or send it off to FORDS to bring it back to original appearance. I know that it will never be a collectors item but this one is almost to nice to use as a shooter. I am really at a loss on this one, any ones opinion would be appreciated.

I have the BKS Starlight and will have to wait until the weekend to check it as I work ~160 miles from my home during the week (and since work is in the "Peoples' Republic of Maryland", I cannot bring any of my toys with me when I commute). One has to be related to Pelosi to get a carry permit in the PRM and even then, you would have to pay her off big time (learned from her father who was probably the most crooked Mayor of Baltimore ever known). Any one who thinks that Star built a poor quality product has never owned or fired on, very accurate.
Great guns!

+1 with gunneyrabbit, I have two of the Star's, a BM and PD, both have been great for me.

I love Star pistols. I used to own a PD and I now own a Modelo
A 9mm Largo. If it were up to me, I would make all Star pistols C&R
seeing as how the factory in Spain went out of buisness long ago.
They made some beautiful quality firearms in their day.

Mine does not appear to have a hole there either, and it works well. Daven

Daven, thanks for the information, I plan on shooting light loads, under 1000 fps and everything should be OK. I'll watch for any change in the angle of the slide release catch and proceed from there if necessary.
Thanks again for your the info.

Good luck Gunneyrabbit:

I enjoy the BKS and I have found that Hi Standard are listing spare mags for the BKS as well. DaveN

Shot today with light loads, very accurate. Had a lot of fellows rubber necking to see what I was shooting, these are very nice pistol's.
Just a word of warning about light 9mm loads, when one of the empty hot casings goes down the front of your shirt, or hits you in the head,
they still hurt!
