Re: Broken Safety
jobot
Don't want to worry you, but it sounds just like mine before it broke. It was really, really tight. It took an awful lot of effort to move it from the fire position to safety position and back. I lubed it up pretty good and worked it back and forth for a while. It seemed to help a little, but not that much. After I shot it the next time, when I was cleaning it, is when I noticed the safety had broken in half. I am assuming that it probably had a hairline crack in it when I bought it which is why it was tight. After working it back and forth and then shooting the gun, it finally broke in two pieces.
I fired it a number of times with the safety broken and it didn't seem to affect the gun's operation in any way. I just did not feel comfortable having a firearm with a broken part so I didn't keep it. The safety on my other P-64 however, works fine. It is very easy to operate with my thumb and is not tight at all. I did alot of searches on the web for parts for this gun and I'm sure everyone else here can tell you that parts are all but non-existent. Even the gunsmith that looked at my broken safety couldn't find repair parts for it.
For the price, you could buy another one and keep one of them for parts. I was going to do that, but Cabela's was sold out when I finally got down there so I opted for more ammo instead. Hopefully, yours won't break completely like mine did, but it sounds like the same problem I originally had.
