Just cleaned my P64 with Break Free - Power Blast Gun Cleaner.
Forgot to take the grips off first. It discolored one of them and started eating the backs of both. Took em off real fast and sprayed some oil on them and washed them in soap. Think I have saved them but one of them has some white streaks in it.
Cleaned my S&W 22A and left the grips on too but they were not affected.
Warning - Break Free will eat your grips

Space,
Thanks for the warning about the Power Blast Gun Cleaner! Most of the "power cleaner" for firearms will attack this type plastic and ruin it in a hurry. Rmember when you guys were young and building the model car, planes, tanks, etc. The glue that is used actually "melts" the plastic parts together and dries fast. The Cleaner is similar to this, it begins to melt the plastic. Brake Cleaner is similar stuff and you can't get that stuff on anything except metal. It will attack most all plastics!
When you plan on a full cleaning, remove the grips to be on the safe side.
