Hi ya'll!!

Post by boncchl »

I have been thinking about getting a P64 for some time now, well today I pulled the proverbial trigger and ordered one from J&G.
Excited about getting it sometime this week, not only is is a nice pistol I am also Polish so there is some heritage there lol!

My first question is what is the best way to clean this before its first time out? What do the experts here recommend? I appreciate it and look forward to gaining some great knowledge from everyone here!

Take it as far apart as you are comfortable. At a minimum, take the slide and grips off. I recommend cleaning the grips with just soap and water as some solvents can damage plastic (I screwed up a set of CZ-82 grips with Gun Blaster once). Submerge everything else overnight in a solvent like mineral spirits, kerosene, paint thinner, diesel fuel, etc. It won't hurt to agitate it a little occasionally.

Next morning, flush it inside and out with automotive brake cleaner, Gun Blaster, etc. Then do a normal clean and lube. Note that Gun Blaster/brake cleaner will remove all traces of lubrication so you have to be sure to get lube to every part of the gun. I use Rem Oil spray and blast it everywhere. Towel it down to remove the excess then put back together and head to the range.
