hey guys,
just bought my first hand gun this weekend. it is a 1970 p-64 and i love it. already had one guy offer me 100.00 dollars more than what i payed. NO THANKS. i love it. already ordered a recoil spring from wolff. think i will leave trigger alone, it is fine to me. but am interested in making/buying wooden grips. they look great. this is a great site and already have learned much from all of your posts.

Welcome. I changed both springs on my gun didn't notice much from the recoil spring but the trigger spring was a welcome improvement on DA but if you like it where it is, great.

These little gun are diamonds in the rough. They are well made and designed and well suited for CCW.

I would not go above a 20lb recoil spring as the blow back operational timing could be affected to cause a malfunction. That is just my opinion though!

Contrary to the internet experts the 9 x 18 round is a formidable self defense ammo. I mean let's face it has served the Eastern Europeans for years now.

I would shy away from Wolf Russian Ammo though! As Senior Member Norm Sutton points out the primers can be pierced and that will make a paperweight out of your pistol. The P 64's have a 24 lb hammer spring by design to be able to use the very hard primered Soviet sub machine gun ammo. This could easily pop a normal primer and blow a firing pin or extractor from what I have read. I would take the hammer spring down to 20 lbs or under to prevent this.

Most of the users seem to be having good results with Brown Bear and Silver Bear Russian ammo and I have found good results my self. Silver Bear also make a JHP that is relatively good.

If you want grips, I'd go to Dennis and look at his grips, or Zee grips, all good custom grip makers. Welcome to the Forum, it has all the information you can use to really do some nice work to your P-64 and other pistoles. Norm Sutton is the gunsmith and he is good. All the guys here will help you along, just ask questions!

I just saw a post on another thread, "http://www.dansammo.com/firearms.asp has them for $159." Fair price to me, but I have never dealt with this company so you would have to check them out for yourself...
