recoil spring problem

Post by surplusandrew »

Im having a problem installing the 22lb wolff recoil spring. for some reason the slide will not align with the guide rails...it just kinda sits on top of them and no matter how hard i push down it wont budge. is this common? should i take a rubber mallet to it? any help would be appreciated.

The ends of the 22 lbs springs have to be modified a little bit. They are cut square not tapered like the original springs. Take a dremel to the spring and taper it to look like the original and it will work as it should.
Should be pretty straight forward.

Make sure the hammer is cocked back and that the magazine is removed from the pistol. Also, make sure the slide catch bar is properly in place. Any three of these will keep the slide from getting down far enough to allow it to get in the rails.

EDIT: Another thing is making sure the trigger guard is opened. If it is up then that will keep the slide from going on.
