What ammo do you use now?

Post by 918collector »

Haven't checked in for quite some time. Long enough ago that 9x18 was still pretty cheap. Now it's more expensive than 9x19 and much scarcer.
Which brings up a question. What's the best stuff to buy nowadays?

One of the reasons I bought my first 9x18 (a Russian Mak) was because I could easily trim and resize parabellum cases but didn't do it much because there was so much cheap, good foreign stuff in the country.

Haven't bought much Starline brass in a while so haven't priced it lately, either.

I will say that the Lee bullet mold for Maks is hands-down the easiest thing I have ever cast so I can always start doing that again for my plinker stuff.

So is anybody back to reloading 9x18 much? :)

Yup. Thanks To Norm who got me started reloading and taught me how to trim the abundant 9mmm luger brass. I still have tons of Silver bear and some Norinco factory stuff but am shooting my reloads almost exclusively .

I don't reload, but I have found good deals thru Sportsman's Guide for FMJ and JHP 9x18 ammo. If you buy 1000 rounds and apply SG's discounts, I paid appx $10/box for 50 rounds of Silver Bear FMJ ammo.

That's not bad. I get SMG all the time but haven't bought any ammo from them in a while. I guess I would back off large quantities of ammo because of the shipping costs.
