Dom,
Sorry, I didn't mean to high jack your thread. I'm pretty easily carried away and excited with new projects. That is a beautiful finish you did on your Tokarov and good looking grips. I'm jealous that I don't have the ability that you and NORM both share. Please post more photo's of your work, every one here loves photographs.

CZ-82 Refinish?
dom, very nice work on the Romanian Tok in your 12/6 post. I am getting ready to undertake the same project on mine. I'll be using Wheeler Cerama-Coat.
I have not painted a gun before so I'm in uncharted territory. Question: when you did the slide did you first remove the extractor? It occured to me that the dried paint/finish might freeze up the extractor. Same thing with the frame, I wondered if the paint would affect any of the moving parts (hammer, trigger, mag release button etc.). Looking forward to refinishing my Tok because the re-arsenal finish that came on it is awful, but I'd like to get it right. Many thanks!

Thank You gents for the kind words.
gunny- Not a problem amigo. I actually enjoy your joining in on the topic, asking questions that can only benefit all of us.
hangfire- Yeah, you'll need to remove the extractor. Any little bit of dirt or oil inside will mess up your finish. I did a total disassembly of the Tok, but only painted the frame (masked off the rails), slide (outside only) and all the parts that can be seen when the pistol is assembled. The hammer was the only part of the trigger group that was painted.
If you need help with the breakdown here's a very helpful link:

And Brownells has some great tutorial videos on their website:

Thanks dom for two excellent links which I reviewed and will re-study before I get underway. I now understand the importance of detail stripping the gun versus just a field-strip prior to painting.

A 37 yr. career as a class A machinist has allowed me to acquire certain skills that i never dreamed of as a young man. I see it as a blessing from above to also have a 22 yr. part time vocation of building custom knives.
Here's some custom grips i made for my MarkII from coco bolo, and then built this custom folder with grips from the same block of wood. My thinking was it would be kinda cool to have a matched set.

Always a pleasure to help, if you get stuck anywhere along the way just say the word here or even pm.
