Your first P-64, when?

Post by talon »

Hello All,

I'm a newbie also, got mine just this month. Went into the store knowing absolutely nothing about the p-64. I found it as I was browsing. I had been looking for a low profile piece. Viola there it was fit and feel was.. "you guys know :) " The construction is what truly drew me to it, and the great price.

That trigger wow! But I new I could learn to fix it, or live with it given that it was only for a CCW and not an all time shooter.

I took it home and immediately started surfing the net for a fix on the trigger. First board was the Mak board. Boy was that ever a depressing place for a P64 owner.
Then, I found a thread link there that identified our board. The rest is history.

My contributions to the board are limited I'm truly a noob when it comes to this firearm, Maks, and other Mil surplus but I enjoy talking about it and learning from you guys.

I've also ordered 2 more of these little jewels.

Peace,
ST~ 8-)

"papabear" has got it right about the Makarov Forum on Gunboards. It is a GOOD Forum, and most folks are great there, and the few that "bash" the P-64 certainly have their right to their opinion. I also hope we can maintain gentlemanly discussions on this Forum if there is a disagreement of opinions! Sometime we learn something from disagreements, well, that is what my wife tells me when she does not agree with me, LOL, LOL.

I'm new to any gun forum but I've read alot of them , I have just order 2 of the p-64's
because of this forum. I own 3 FEG ppk clones new in the box 2 in 9x18 makarov and 1 in 22 long rife and I love these guns they have taken a lot of bad mouthing too so I had to get 2
p-64 . I have bought a lot of hand guns new and old I have not found one that i didn't have to do some sort gunsmithing to it. So i can't wate to get my hands on my p-64's to see what I can do with these fine guns.

Got my first one yesterday for $190 with spare mag and a box of ammo!

I was looking for a Bersa Thunder 380 because of what I had read about them. Dealer said he would order one for me. Called him Thursday and he said that he couldn't get one and that the company had been sold and they don't make it any longer.

He said he had a "Polish Makarov P64" instead if I would be interested. Did a google search that night and found this site. Good info and I decided it was probably better than the Bersa anyway. All steel and built like a tank.

Shot 100 rounds through it today. Fun, Fun, Fun...

space,

I think you made a good choice. I have had a Bersa years ago and it was a good pistol, but the P-64 just feels and shoots better than the Bersa I had.

Glad to hear the 100 rounds thru the P-64 did well; they are really great pistols, and so accurate for such a small pistol!

I still haven't got to shoot mine yet, but maybe this weekend I will--headin' out to visit my folks, they live in the country and shoot in the back yard! If they shoot better than a Bersa, they should be pretty good--the Argentines seem to be pretty fair hands at pistolcraft...

Shot it again this weekend. The more I use it, the more I like it.

Just ordered 1000 rounds of Wolf ammo and another P64 to keep it company. ;D

Pretty accurate too... 20 yards, 2 clips (12 shots) with < 1 sec between shots:

Space, that's good shooting! You should try Bartosz's Polish Drill #1. Someone on this forum needs to shoot a 50 and you look like the person to do it! For details see the thread called "competition". His bullseye is essentially a 4" dia circle (25 meters) and you are in there. Are you shooting SA with the original spring or have you modified?

Good luck!

I bought mine last Saturday. It's a 1968 round hammer. I did over pay for it, though this is the norm in my area, only two places I know of that carry mil-surp here and the one place that I know has good prices is ~70 miles away.

It's a very fun pistol. I think I may need to change the recoil spring, its recoil is very harsh.

I've had mine I'm guessing about 6 months now. I wanted to get a CCW for my wife that was small, accurate, dependable, and packed enough punch to get the job done in a tight spot. So I let her pick out a weapon she would be comfortable with, and she picked the P-64. :)
