HI there. Just wondering if your P64 slide doesn't lock back after installing the heavier recoil spring. I have 3 mags now and 2 of them didn't lock back after the last shot (with the new spring). Haven't switched it back with regular spring but worked great before the install.
It would lock back empty when i rack it manually. I don't know. maybe the slide catch is worn, but doesn;t seem to be worn that bad. Any ideas ?

The recoil spring didn't affect this on any of mine. I guess if it works with the original and not the extra power, install a Hogue Handall Jr. grip and leave the original spring in. The extra power recoil spring didn't make nearly as much difference in recoil as the Handall Jr.

Go back to the stock spring and love it for what it is. You wouldn't believe how many people seem to change the springs out on these before a proper cleaning and a 1st trip to the range. If you absolutely can't live with it 100% stock, then change out the mainspring - IMO, the recoil spring change is not necessary.chuwee81 wrote: worked great before the install.

DF
is right , clean the gun first and the mags go fire it , then change the spring if you want

+3 with DF and Norm, that's a thorough cleaning that includes the mags also, many of us learned this the hard way.

Give extra attention to the slide release and magazines . It is likely that the slide release is gummed up with cozmoline or fouling and not functioning properly.
Good luck,

You've got it backwards: clean more so you can shoot!

I changed my recoil spring out and it still locks back when the mag is empty. Give it a good cleaning and give it another go.
