Came across this on Gun Broker, thought you all might enjoy seeing an oddball or one of you that's serious about collecting might want to track it down.
Polish Radom P-64 semi-automatic training pistol. Caliber: 9 mm Makarov This is a training device as used in Polish military schools. The pistol has a factory barrel cut away and will not function with real ammunition. It was meant solely for training. The pistol was introduced in 1964 under the name, "wz. 1964". It was manufactured by Radom in 1968, as indicated by Warsaw Pact code on the slide, "11" (in the circle). Several small Radom factory marks are stamped on various parts of the pistol.
I saw that too. The high starting price might have to do with availablity and numbers. I have several friends who attend auctions regularly and if this is a one of a kind collectors item, it is highly possible that the asking price is that high.
Understood, training models and/or factory cutaway demos are made in extremely small quantities and the mods were hand done by a factory machinist. I'm not saying its not worth it, just that the P-64 isn't as widely known as a lot of guns and isn't quite into the status of collectible yet. Someday that gun will be worth a lot, no doubt about that. One of the dealers in the back of the last Issue of Shotgun News was advertising that they had got a hold of a couple current generation CZ or FN factory cutaway pistols (I can't remember which at the moment).
