hello everyone. just purchased a p64 from j and g and was playing around with it(unloaded of course). I know there is not an external slide catch/release so this may be a silly question. but with an empty magazine and the slide open is it possible to release the slide forward without taking the magazine out? also is it possible to keep the slide in the back position if the magazine is out? this is my first gun without an external slide catch. thanks.

First off, welcome to the group. Lots of great folks here.
On an empty magazine it is the follower that activates the slide stop / ejector. You could stick something through the ejection port and compress the mag follower to release the slide but it would be easier to remove the mag.
The easiest way to activate the slide stop would be with an empty mag.
It would be nice to have an external lever to operate the stop though.
