PA-63 and Power Ball ammo

Post by darrell »

I bought a PA-63 to go with my PA-64. I have ordered a a 13# recoil spring and hogue handall grip. The gun won't feed hollow points so I was considering using Power Ball. I know they are okay in the P-64 but was wondering if they were okay in the alloy frame P-64. Testing the PA-63 at the range it looks like you have to hold it low or suffer pain. I think it's recoil is a lot worse than the P-64 and seems to concentrated on the web and first knuckle of the thumb.

My PA63 was unfired when I got it, and it had feed problems with anything but Winchester and MFS. I polished the feed ramp with some silver polish which slightly cured the problem. Now that I have put over 400 rounds through it, it shoots anything.

Darrell, I believe that powerball ammo is ok, but I defer to those on this site who know more than I. You may want to try the Silver Bear HP's. Aimsurplus has a supply. They feed pretty much like FMJ's and wear might polish your feeding ramp a bit. Sometimes, they don't open real well, but they are not too bad in my experience.

Man, this is a hard one. I carry pow-r-ball in my P-64, but I love the silver bear also. I just like the extra speed from the pow-r-ball & it feeds like a FMJ rd.
