so i'm a wimp

Post by bob »

hello to all.new here but I want to thank norm who called me on thanksgiving to help with a problem.I'm a klutz with computers and my email is messed up so I pm him to call me and he does in a half hour!!! Now the reason I'm a wimp is because I installed the 17 lbs spring because its soooo smooth. Also the 20lb recoil. I will be shooting mostly fiocchi and some barnaul I have left over and will be going to the range sun.My main concern is light strikes. What do you guys think? I know I may find out the hard way but its fun.Thanks.

I went to the range today and midway through shooting switched to a 20# recoil spring and could not feel a difference. So I am back to looking for some advise on the best recoil spring to use.
The Trouble with trouble is that it always starts out as fun.

Oppy

there is only two weights on recoil springs that Wolff makes the 20# and the 22# on some 22 # you have to grind the ends of the springs flat to get them into the gun

bob

don't shoot that gun without the slide stop spring in it ,the slide stop is also there ejector

:)

Bob,

Stay away from the 17 pound spring. It is too light. Normally I use the 18 trigger and the 20 slide.

to light & mag drops
the 18 # will probably be to light for steel ammo

Got back just before the monsoon hit here in Fl.Wow!! I can see where this little bugger could be a handfull before mods.Over 100 rnds.First 40 left over barnaul no problems.I thoght because of seel maybe some lite strikes but all well with 18lbs spring. The rest fiocchi.Near the end one failed to go off even after 5 strikes da and sa.Have to chalk it up to bad ammo. Also one fail to feed.Round did not make into chamber was kinda nose up but was not trapped by the slide which stuck open.Either a limp wrister or dirty IMHO.Oh,the fail to fire was dimpled about as deep as the fired ones.Guard hinge pin backed out but no biggie. All in all avery trust worthy gun for the 7-15 rnds you may need to protect yoursef.God forbid.

You're no wimp.

100 rnds thru your P-64 is pretty daunting -- I don't care who you are. Bet your accuracy suffered as time went on...

I haven't changed any springs yet because I can't FIND the slightly heavier recoil spring I bought (and out of the box the gun doesn't work in double-action so needs more serious attention anyway). That said, I was surprised how much I didn't mind the recoil in limited shooting but I WILL replace the recoil spring to absorb more shooter and frame punishment as well as the hammer spring to improve double action (again, once the latter is working), however, I will make the smallest change from factory I can to help ensure reliabilty.

I did have some redness in th web of my hand but I believe a strong grip prevents the gun fro m slapping into the web somewhat.also remember if you change the firing pin spring with the stronger one that comes with the wolff recoil spring it may add to lite strikes.I did not.Norm also felt it was not necessary either.Good shooting.
