Racking the slide

I bought a used P-64 in May at a gun & knife show. I like the gun a lot ; it shoots great and is really accurate. This is my first handgun. My problem is racking the slide. I am 72 years old and the strength in my hand and forearm is not as good as it used to be. My two grown sons had no problem with the slide. Is there a way for me to modify the slide action without harming the pistol? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

All I can think of is to manually cock the hammer first, then rack the slide.

Are you placing your weak hand over the top of the slide and squeezing it with all five fingers instead of using a "slingshot" technique pinching the rear of the slide between your thumb and forefinger?

I have tried several methods of racking the slide. I can do it, but not without great difficulty. Would cocking the hammer manually first really help? I have not tried this. Thanks.

mozart3100 welcome aboard, you can change out the recoil spring and the hammer spring to a lighter spring. Go to Modifications Fixes and Repairs and I believe somewhere in ther you can find out what springs wil go with others and still have your P-64 work like a champ. It also should make racking the slide easier for you. There will be a bunch of other guys that will help you out also. Thats what makes this sight so great. Oh, make sure you clean it really good, I use brakeclean and then grease the slides and oil it with 3 in 1 and some guys use motor oil, it works.
