P64 double action

I have a question concerning the double action on my P64. I have changed recoil springs, hammer springs and have an ok DA on my P64. Looking closely I can see that the hammer sort of torques to the right side as the trigger is pulled and rubs the right upper side of the frame just below the slide. I used a small piece of paper and on the left side with the hammer pulled half way back via the trigger, there is room for the paper to slide between the frame and hammer. Not so on the right side, it actually grabs the paper and holds the paper tight enough to rip it while holding preasure on the trigger. The pistol shoots great and did not look used when purchased. Happy with the pistol but wondering if anyone else has noticed this on their P64 and what can be done about it.

Please excuse my ignorance when it comes to posting pictures. Never done it before so I'll work on it and see if I can send pictures of the problem. It could be that there is no answer, they might all do it. Not much of a mechanical advantage for the DA in that small of a package. Just having fun with it and trying to make something thats good to be better.

It happens only on one side (the right side) . On the right side with the paper, it is held tight at an angle straight away from the pistol. If you grabbed it quickly it would rip. On the left the paper is sticking straight up and balanced. It will fall out because the hammer has clearance on that side. I noticed it when I was fooling around looking for surfaces to polish to make a better DA. As you pull the trigger and as the hammer moves on the backward stroke it is rubbing the side of the frame. I'm thinking the hammer pin is probably the weakest link but I guess it could be the hammer as well. I hold the paper in position as I pull the trigger and you can feel it grap at the paper as it goes back. Thats my problem. ? ??? Oh yeah, in the picture notice how red the end of my finger is holding the trigger part way? Trigger still has a hefty draw to it.

like I said it could the hammer pin , could be bent or broken someone could of drop the gun on it's hammer


the trigger pull on these guns is like dragging a concrete block across the floor with a string tied to it and your finger

the spring change is all you have to do

I'll get the thing aoart and check the hammer pin as you suggest. So, I will assume nobody else has this problem. In other words , its not common in all pistols. Now I'll rip into it.

OK, here's my plan. Getting a new (to me) P64 tomorrow. I'l play with the new one briefly then try to work out the issue with the hammer on the old one. Not real excited about breaking it down, kinda worried about getting the pistol back together. To be continued.

That will work. I've browsed on that link before. Kinda forgot about it. My P64 goes under for surgery on Sunday. Depending on whats found, recovery may be quick or an extensive stay on the bench may be needed. Thanks again Norm.
