Jamming problem

I recently purchased a P-64. It looks unfired.
Today was the first chance I had to try it out. The good news is that it shoots a small group and that it kicks less than I was lead to believe. The bad news is that after twelve rounds it began to jam. The jams occur as the empty is ejected. In most cases the empty cartridge case is caught ,by the bolt, before it can clear the port. In one case it was caught lengthwise in the exit port in all others sideways. I also had two FTL with the cartridges stuck above the chamber. A real bear to clear.
I am using Blazer 9x18 Makarov, 95 gr.TMJ. (All that was available at my range) The casings are made of aluminum or some other light weight metal. Anyone have this problem before? Solutions?

Have you properly cleaned and oiled the gun? Was it is cosmoline when you got it? These need a good going over before they are fired.

There are many postings here on the site that deal with the type of trouble you are having. Cleaning and proper oiling cannot be stressed enough.

did you clean the gun before you fired it, if not take the grips & slide off and clean the gun

After 13 rds. jamming? Mine p64 works ok after getting new magazines from keepshooting.com, but.. jammig after 25 rds.
I discover: metal in the new magazines not strong enough and top became wider. Even tight to insert in pistol. I Used small hammer to get original dimensions. After all, no problem. this is was first range test with new 20# recoil spring and 18# main spring. Good luck

I've taken everyones' advice and stripped her down, cleaned everything I could see and oiled absolutely everything. A friend of the owner of the range thought that the ammunition may be the problem. Has anyone used this type of ammo? I have to say I never heard of aluminum shell casings.

I have never used Blazer for a 9x19 but I have used it for my .45 and it was great. However the blazer brass is rotten. CCI's QC must have gone home. Welcome czrbiker glad to have you here.

czbiker, welcome aboard!
My guess is that your problem was solved with the cleaning, as for the CCI ammo, I gave up on it a long time ago. My advice and I believe that every one else at this forum is to go on the INTERNET and search for Silver Bear or Brown Bear ammunition. Even with the shipping it will be a lot less expensive than the CCI and is ideal for your 9x18 handgun. If you buy in bulk the more you buy the cheaper it gets. Try GunBroker under ammunition and simply enter 9x18, you will find several company's that have very good prices. "Silver Bear hollow points are very cool".

The advice you guys gave me was great. After cleaning again and again I switched to Wolf 9x18 and shot 50 rds without a jam. Thanks

Glad to hear you resolved your problem by cleaning. Mostly shoot S&B at the range, from time to time I will shoot some Mesko from Poland but its hard to get so I am saving it, and green box Norinco too when I can find it in my P-64's.

As for the CCI Blazer ammo, the only CCI aluminum case ammo I have used is their .45acp, and it shoots great in all my 1911A1 types for plinking and busting paper. I have not use their brass ammo but according to blinddog, it's not all that good. I was looking just this past week of ordering some CCI Blazer brass ammo in 9mm [9x19] but now I'll take a second look at it. Natchez Shooters Supplies out of Chattanooga, Tn has the brass 9mm CCI Blazer for $7.99 for 50 rds. I have had very good dealings with them in the past two years, they have a very good line up of ammo even though I buy a lot of my on line ammo at Aim Surplus, but lately, Natchez has been having really good deals and a better variety.

You mentioned the green box Norinco ammo. I saw some in a gun store several days ago. I have been reluctant to use the brand because some have expressed doubt whether it is truly non-corrosive as the box claims. Do you know from experience that this stuff really is non-corrosive? If so, I will probably buy some of it.

I treat all ammo as corrosive as well as surplus ammo and some of it I know is not corrosive, however, I just like to be on the safe side. There is nothing wrong with shooting corrosive primers if you keep your weapon cleaned. Over the years I have shot thousands of rounds of corrosive ammo in my rifles and handguns and have not had a single problem as long as I cleaned the weapon relatively soon after shooting it with known corrosive ammo. So, just as I assume all guns are loaded, I assume all ammo is corrosive.

As for the Norinco Green box, I like it, its not as dirty as some of the Russian ammo and its pretty accurate. Locally, I've been getting Norinco Green Box for $10 OTD, don't see to much of it but when I do I get a all they have, I also buy the Yellow Box Norinco in 7.62x25 for my CZ52 at $10 for a box of 60, again I like it too. Bottom line for me, with the exception of Wolf ammo, the cheaper the better, I find a good buy I get a bunch of it. I enjoy cleaning my weapons. I sometimes just break em down and reassemble them just for something to do. Just my $0.02 worth.

I like the norinco green box. when ever I can find it I buy it up. like Papbear there is no ammo that is not corosive at least that is how I think a lot of us treat ammo. My wife always teases me when I go to range wants to know which I enjoy more the shooting or the cleaning afterwards... eemmmmm let me think about that..
