I have been thinking and looking for a while, saw this in a classified ad in Gun "something" and called. Well the dealer was coming to a local gunshow this weekend from Maine and said he'd bring it along so I could look and decide.

Well my son came along and helped me make the decision..."oh my goodness, you have to buy that"!

So I did and here it is...1903 Colt Pocket Auto 32 and it is having a birthday, manufactured in 1908!

(pink pillow just for AL)

This is the second variation with a 3 1/2 inch barrel and no mag saftey. It has a thumb saftey and a grip saftey that engage only when the pistol is cocked. The mag is tight to seat and release but other than that it is perfect! (Pretty sure a re-bluing was done sometime but it sure looks like a nice one) $300 otd...

I can't wait to go to the range tomorrow! I hope the mag (original as best as I can tell...2 tone and stamped Cal 32 Colt on the bottom) loosens up.

My son has dibs on everything I own and even on stuff I'm thinking about owning... :'(

We try to do as much together as possible. Just a few days ago I mentioned to him that I shouldn't spend the money. He laughed and said to wait until I figured out what I really wanted (as we are always talking about 45's, enfields, MAS, Mod 94 etc) I never seem to know what I want until it's time to buy it or walk away.

But once he saw the 1908 380cal US Government model and figured out it was pretty much the same as the 32!!! He couldn't drag me fast enough to buy this one!

We have a great time together. I finally figured out how to field strip this beauty and it is full of gunk so since it is snowing and my son is working...a good soaking and scrubbing is in the works then maybe the indoor range tonight?!?

About the blueing carguy, I once owned a 1903 Colt hammerless 380 made in 1916 and was sold out of a hardware store in Chicago and the blueing was perfect. A buddie of mine fathers carried it while he was a pilot with American Airlines( believe it or not). It slipped away from me in a trade and I still kick myself for letting it go. Very nice find ya got and congrats!

That is such a great gun! I was watching a special on the history channel about gangsters of the 20's.....and they showed quite a few of these 1903 pocket guns.

Finally got it to the range and WOW! This is a fun and accurate little pistol.

Shot a 2 3/4" group with 1 flier at 10 yards! Then my son decided to show me how it was done and started plinking at a steel target at 25 yards...his 1st mistake...1 hit in 8. I took over and hit 4 out of 8.

Then he dragged me to the 100 yard steel target...his 2nd mistake...he missed 16 rounds...I hit on my very first shot (then missed the rest too...

We had a ball, not a miscue on the part of the pistol at all. Tight mag like I said before...trying to ram it home to lock in and then releasing it from the grip bottom. But I'm sure that will loosen up with use...I would never have believed this is a 100 year old pistol bythe way it operated today!!

There are lots of good reasons that you liked to shoot the Colt 1903 hammerless - a total of 572.000 have been produced and our military was still giving them out to general officers as self-defense sidearms during WWII. They simply melt away during concealment and they fit the hand like a glove. Yes, I have a 1903 in .32 that was produced in 1911 and it shoots quarter groups at 7 yds.

By the way did you notice that the grip safety acts like a cocked hammer indicator and remains depressed when uncocked? Browning was an amazing inventor!
