Still having safety problems

After all of the cleaning, polishing, wetsanding, crocus cloth, and graphite, I still have a tightness issue with one of my P-64's.

1975, triangle hammer, Wolff 20lb recoil spring (with Wolff replacement firing pin spring), Wolff 18lb mainspring.

I mean, this sucker is so tight that it takes a firm grip and both hands to work it. :'(

My other 1975 has the same spring setup and the safety is quite nice. It is smooth with a quick flip of the thumb.

I have ordered the Walther PP plunger and spring as per the Stickey safety post in hope that this will help.

Any other suggestions out there before I get the Dremel out or resort to cutting the original safety spring down?

fritzhund, remove the safety and you will see two indentions that look like cat eyes, loss of better exanple. take a very small drill bit the just fits the "cat eyes" and using your fingers twist the drill bit in them. This sometimes takes off rough edges and makes it a lot easier to move the safety. I had the same problem and did this and it really worked like a charm for me.

When I got my like new P-64 the safety was impossibly stiff. Following advice on this forum I tried working it back and forth. this just resulted in my losing a piece of skin from the inside of my right thumb, which took several weeks to heal. Then I removed the safety and rounded the edges of the "cat's eyes" and also the tip of the plunger. After several trial fittings it ended up just right and I can work the safety either on or off with a firm flick of my thumb.

fritzhund. PshootR has a pretty good idea on rounding the plunger, however you must be careful not to round it too much or you could wind up having the safety drop while firing it. It makes it smooth but too much makes it too smooth.
