My favorite gun store keeps the drum mags in stock, I've been tempted to get one as a "spare ammo under the car seat" kinda thing, but my will power is still holding strong. I believe they are made to different capacities, the one there now Is a 40 rounder I believe.

Space. I think you can get Novak rear sights with dots and a King front sight with a dot that will fit your pistol pretty good and the price ain't too bad. If you have a crimper for the front sight you can do it your self!!

The Wilson Combat 8-rounders are quite nice ... I find them WAY easier to load than most 7 rounders and I've never had a failure of any kind with them. I use a mix of 7's and 8's but the WC 8's proved themselves in a class I took where we shot ~800 rounds in two days.

I like my P64 and many other designs, but there just isn't anything out there (that I've seen) ... even high end stuff ... that can match the trigger on an AVERAGE 1911.

I like the ACT-MAG 8 round Italian made mags. Novak mags are the same, they are made by ACT-MAG but the Novaks cost a little more. Novak has to make some profit for the name. MEC-GAR makes good ones too. Cheaper than Wilson and others too.

There is a company that makes a carbine conversion for any mil spec 1911 design. Comes with a 16 or 18 inch barrel and a shoulder stock that replaces the grips and a scope rail. Hang a forty round drum magazine off the grip and a red dot sight on the rail and you would have one bad boy to play with.
That would be lots of fun!

saands, I tried a Wilson Combat 10 rd clip on my Springfield and had problems feeding with 10 rds in the clip. If I put 9 rds in it then chamber a rd then put one in the clip to make it 9 it works pretty good.

Yeah .... the 10 rounders are different ... I have had mixed results with them (I tried them when shooting some IPSC matches as there is a REAL penalty there for using low cap mags when the wonder-nine boys are using 20+ rounders!). I think that a Google search on reliability of 1911 mags will show that people like most of the 7 rounders and some folks like the Wilson (model 47D IIRC?) 8 rounders and some like the Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8 rounders ... but those didn't work for me. FWIW, you can also get a steel floor plate for the Wilsons that gets rid of the one complaint that I've heard of them.

I agree saands, 7 rounders are most reliable but I also have 2 CM 8 rnd and they have worked great. Truth be known I perfer the old fashioned Colt or Springfield 7 rnd clips. Just call me old fashioned!!
