Ok, it isn't exactly a mugger or bank robber, but I actually got to pull it today. I turned off the highway onto the entrance to my subdivision ( I live in a very rural subdivision) and I saw a small rattler crossing the road. Since there are kids and dogs in the neighborhood, I wasn't going to allow him to live. I could have used my car and run him over, but I hate to waste a good target shooting opportunity.

Small snakes aren't easy to hit. The first 3 shots struck right beside his head. As each shot blew up the dirt, he would strike and move. The 4th shot cut his neck, but I wanted to finish him off, so I got within about 3 ft and put one into his head.

This one was only about 16" long, but there are much bigger ones here. When they were clearing land not far from here, the bulldozer cut one in half that was almost 8'. A year later, I had a 4 1/2 footer sneak up behind me. He was about as big around as my forearm. He died quickly too. :(

Na. Like I said, I live in a rural subdivision. All the houses have at least 1 acre lots. Of the 4 closest houses to where I shot, the smallest lot is over 2 acres and the largest is about 10.

doyle,

I thought in FL the limit on rattlesnakes was 3 and they had to be at least 24" long..... ::)......well, one out of two ain't bad as long as you don't shellac it, the collectors of rattlesnakes would be upset........ ;D
