My Bayonet : What is it?

Post by carguy »

I know several members have mentioned in the past that they collect bayonets and I was hoping one of them might give me some info regarding a bayonet I've had tucked away and forgotten. ???

carguy,

If I could see the whole bayonet I could tell you more, however, it appears to be a post 1943 M1 Garand bayonet and the "H" on the top of the tine indicates it has been rearsenaled, if it is in VG or EX condition it is worth $125 to $150. If it had a date of 1942 or 1943 and had a 10" blade then it would be cut down of the 16" bayonet then its worth would be in the $75 to $100 range, and these still fit the 1903's, 1917's, they would also fit the M1 Garand, but I am guessing this bayonet has the 10" blade due to it doesn't have those dates on it. Does the scabbard have any marking on the back of the scabbard? The web belt in the pic is a post WWII pistol belt.

Yes it is a 10 inch blade. It has no dates on it just the markings I photographed.

The scabbard has a vp on the back. The p is very long with a small branch sticking out from it directly under the v and then further down sticking out to the right. Then there are the numbers 15 under that.

Nothing else.

carguy,

What you have is a WWII probably '44 or '45 that has been rearsenaled , so I am guessing it in good condition, and the scabbard is a original WWII scabbard by it having the VP [Victory Plastic USA] on the back. Looks like you have a nice example of the WWII M1 Garand bayonet and scabbard, very good carguy.
