Hello, I've been shooting with my P64 several times and the sights appear to be off. The rear sight is setting to the right so that it protrudes just slightly from the slot it sits in. Using it this way it is always off to the left just a little. My friend shot it too and it did the same for him so its not just me. I can't figure out what sort of tool or how you'd push it back over to the left to center it. Should I just take it back to the gun shop and see if they can do it for me ?
Thanks, JC

How to adjust sights
It just takes a brass or Poly punch and a hammer to tap it over. I have an idea though that it won't help to move the rear sight to the left if the poi is already off to the left. The point of impact will move left if you move the rear sight left, and it will move right if you move the rear sight to the right. Something is evidently wrong with the alighment of the slide to the frame, because someone has already tried to adjust the poi by moving the rear sight that far to the right.
There is a possibility, also, that the frame was bent a little when someone tried to remove the barrel, or changed the barrel out....
bZ.

Well I guess I need to move it to the right then. I got a bullseye with it once but mostly everything on the target is left of center so the easiest way to get it right would be to adjust the sights. As far as the gun being out of whack that could be since they are army surplus, and there isn't much I can do about that. I really like my 64 but I'm not swapping barrels and frames and all sorts of stuff on a little carry gun.

How to adjust sights
JC
Not making light of the sights or anything else.. I have a habit of of shooting down and left which means I push the bullet out... not always but I have been known to do that. Not inferring you do that. but where I am going with this is I have learned what i call Kentucky windage (compensate for where the gun wants to or where you want to shoot naturally . (both for me and some guns naturally shoot off center of sights for some of the afore mentioned reasons.).. As you pointed out they are surplus or reissued or whatever. I love the 64 and while I might use it at ranges of over ten or twelve yards I never lose sight(sorry) of why I carry it... I just want to hit body mass if I have have to. it is not a target gun.

Yeah its not a target gun. I got it last winter and was planning on buying a brand new full size pistol by now too, but it hasn't been in the budget yet. So if my buddy is going to the range I have to use my 64 mostly. Kind of frustrating to be off all the time, if it wasn't off then I'd be getting mo better results. I have tried holding it different ways and it could partially be me, but like I said my friend shot it and got the same results. I'll have to get a punch and see if I can zero it in a little better I guess.
Thanks, JC

if this gun is shooting that far off center look at the crown of the barrel and see if you don't have a dent in the crown someone could have dropped the gun on its barrel if so its not that hard to re crown a barrel
and re center the rear sight

jc454,
It sounds like you got some really good advice on correcting your problem, so I just wanted to welcome you aboard and let you know we are glad to have you with us. We are a pretty friendly bunch with a wealth of information usually from A to Z, so come often and stay late.

Thanks papabear, actually I've been here since before I bought my p64 I just never posted anything yet. I read about the crown it sounds interesting. I can't afford any gunsmithing at the moment but in the future I might have to have to take it in and see what can be done.
