I had not heard of this rifle before today. It looks like a really cool gun. It is made by Sergey Simonov(designer of the SKS rifle).
Too bad USA laws don't allow private ownership to us regular folks. I would LOOOOVE to add this to my SKS collection!!!
Has anyone here ever held one of these rifles? Or shot it? It shoots the 7.62x54R cartridge and i bet it kicks like a Missouri Mule ! Wow! You learn something new EVERYDAY ! Neat Find for me today! G

never heard of it....but I always wanted a Tokarev. I remember when you could get one for $300 back in the mid 90's, and I even passed on a beautiful one for $450 back in '02. BOY WAS I WRONG! Check the current prices on gunbroker....around $800 to $1000!

or more... Yep, I think the SVT-40 is about the meanest looking rifle Made back then. That $450 investment back then would be paying off BIG these days ! I have seen them as high as $4000.
That AVS-36 is really Mean looking too , tho. To shoot that 7.62 long russian cartridge at 800 RPM Must be like pushing a small car! I like the shape of the SKS . The AVS Magazine holds 15 cartridges and i bet you'd need a wheelbarrel to cart around a days worth of Full AMMO mags!
It is too bad they don't sell a semi-auto version of that AVS-36 in that caliber here! G

The AVS 36 was the prototype for the SVT 38 and later the SVT40. The AVS 36 design was started in the early 30's by Simonov and finally was chosen over the design of Tokarev but was phased out in 1941 and production was halted in 1938 due to problems in the field, some estimates of only 65,00 being made, so my guess is that they are hard find, but it would be nice to have one.
