Range Today...OUCH!

Post by carguy »

I went to the range to practice and shoot my entries for the Independence Day Shoot and nothing but problems!

I shot worse as the morning progressed!! 8~(

First I get yelled at for sticking more than one target on the target holder downrange...okay, my bad, but I didn't want to have to keep going back and forth and stop anyone else from shooting every time I needed to change a target!!

Next I shoot a coupe of mags to get warmed up...pretty good.

Then I start my targets for submission, 1st target...NICE, this is going to be a good day!!!

2nd Target jammed after 1st shot, this happened before after I changed to the 20# recoil spring...Norm helped me out so I clear it, wack the top of the slide and it pops to full battery, I put the mag back in, rack in a cartridge and finish the mag. "A flyer on this target", crap.

3rd Target, no more jamming of the slide due to the spring but now 3 failure to feed jams!! Finally, I finish the mag and have an okay target.

Now I finish off the box of ammo, more FTFs, I'm losing my mind about now!! Maybe it is the mag, I bought a new one a while ago but now 2 of my 3 are jamming. The bullet just won't go straight into the barrel, they seem to be pointing up slightly!

Maybe it's my grip, am I limp wristing it?? Get a good grip, 2 hands, put down my cigar (I can't shoot without my cigar) and BANG...OUCH! There goes part of the fingernail on my left thumb!! How did I do that?! Okay, clean up the blood (not too much), get a band-aid out of the first aid kit and shoot some more. It feeds perfectly for final 2 mags, I pack up, go home and put the original recoil spring back in and I'll try it tomorrow.

I did notice that one of the mags is a little bent at the top on one side. I think I may have done that removing it when it had jammed, I don't think it was the cause of the jamming...at least not at first. More experimentation soon...I like to carry this little baby but I don't trust it as a paperweight right now! 8~)

It sucks about your FTF's and all, but at least you got a good target out of it. Nice shootin carguy! Breaking the line counts for the higher score like in a formal match...I put it in the rules.

Hey Carguy, I was shooting yesterday and had some fair targets none really good. This guy walks up and asks what am I shooting and I show him my 64. He asks if I mind if he shoots it once and I say go ahead. This guy puts five rounds in the black at 30 ft. looks at me and says "nice shootin little gun, kicks a little though." I think to myself that the gun is accurate as all get out if the shooter is accurate as all get out.

Okay so now we all know where blinddog is going to get his "5 in the black" winning target for the Independence Day Shoot.

Busted!!!

Just kidding...but no truer words have ever been spoken...it ain't the pistol nor the ammo...if you know what you're doing you can do it with anything.

A good golfer can play with a $50 set of used clubs. Too many people "need" those $1,500 clubs to "make" them play better.

Practice, practice, practice is what you need to achieve your goal...whatever it may be. I've been drilling that into my children for years. When they ask, Daddy can you do..."whatever"? My answer has always been of course, I can do anything and so can you, just try. If it didn't come out the way you wanted, try again until you get there.

A long round about way of totally agreeing with you! 8~)

Right now I just wish I could get mine to shoot 5 in a row! I haven't had a chance to get to the range today, I was visiting family in New Hampshire.

To the range, to the range, to the range I go...went...and my
P-64 is okay. The funny looking paperweight is gone and my pistol is back!!

The mag had to be the feeding problem. I bent it back and it still mis-fed but the other 2 function fine through 44 rounds straight.

I also put the original recoil spring back in, I like the recoil better with the 20# from Wolf but I don't want to keep banging on my slide to free it up! What is the poundage on the original spring? Maybe I can find an 18 or 19 or something a little stronger than the original and try that.
