Norm, KY Imports is notorious for not updating their website. I have bought a variety of stuff from them in the past without problems, but some people won't deal with them at all because they're flat flaky. You have to call them to find out what they actually have, and then the salesperson puts down the phone and goes wandering through the shelves in the back room ...
That ad is way old, and I believe it's for the old Barnaul RAM brand which hasn't been made in some time. I'll bet they don't have it anymore, but call to find out.

They aren't getting any in anytime soon from what I understand. It was a small shipment from what I learned.

I got this same heads up from another forum a week ago. I called KY and they had nothing but Wolf in 9x18. They did apologize for their website not being updated. Appears they were sorry but didn't care enough to do anything about it.

tmann, that's MFS ammunition, available from SOG for $8.50 a box or $175 for a 1000-round case.

nbender,
Is it safe? I'm a little hesitant on +p rounds in general except for the .38 +P, and am definitely concerned about +p rounds for the P-64.
Do you know any specs like muzzle energy, FPS and such???

There was a previous thread on the MFS +P, I don't recall who said it but assured us that it was okay. I took that advice and purchased 500 rounds a few months ago. Perfectly fine! Not cheap, not a hitch and a little dirty. I just picked up 500 rounds of S&B from Dans Ammo for $109 delivered. I haven't had a chance to shoot any yet but from previous experience with it...that will be fine and alot cleaner to shoot. I have yet to purchase and shoot any Silver Bear ammo. It seems it is always out of stock when I attempt to purchase any.

tmann, I wrote to the MFS factory when they came out with that "+P" designated ammo. They were kind enough to send me their pressure test data sheet from the factory. In Hungarian, but numbers are pretty easy to translate. Of 30 shots fired, the highest pressure they recorded was 1,333 bars, equal to 19,334 psi. I understand that the C.I.P. pressure maximum for the 9x18 cartridge is over 23,000 psi, and Walther Cude in The Ultimate Makarov Guide stated that the Makarov pistol was designed for pressures up to 24,000 psi. I can't find what pressure the P-64 was designed to withstand, but I think it's safe to assume it was built to safely fire rounds built within the C.I.P maximum.
Pressure data for other 9x18 cartridges is hard to obtain, but I've seen Russian rounds in the 17,500 psi range.
Here's velocity data for 20 rounds I put through a chronograph:
Velocity: (fps)
Range: 924 - 1006
Avg: 981
ES: 82
SD: 23
This MFS bullet is actually closer to 93-grains, not 95-grains as listed, and with an average velocity of 981 fps the muzzle energy is around 200 foot-pounds. That's similar to other off-the-shelf varieties of 9x18. The RAM ammo that Norm posted at the start of this thread had a muzzle energy around 235 foot-pounds. The current Silver Bear offering has muzzle energy similar to the MFS +P.
I don't know if calling this cartridge "+P" was a straight marketing ploy or what, but I believe the round is safe to fire in the P-64.

nbender, excuse what may be a very igorant question; so the MFS so-called plus P is, in reality, actually "subsonic" ammo?
I saw some specs on it in sportsman's guide and realized it wasn't all that powerful. my P-64's like it pretty well. Not their favorite, but not bad either.
thanks.

devlinfaust - as the sonic barrier is around 1150 fps, just about all 9x18 ammunition is sub-sonic, with some exceptions from the "speciality ammo" (read: expensive) catagory:
- Cor-Bon did once produce a 95-grain round that approached the sonic barrier, and their current 70-grain round does exceed the sonic barrier;
- The Glaser (Cor-Bon) Safety Slugs are supersonic;
- I have done limited testing on the Quality Cartridge 93-gr RNL, but one bullet I measured broke the sound barrier. I need to shoot more of this brand - I love the stuff. Puts out big smoke and flames and moves a bullet pretty fast.
- RBCD makes a "45-gr TFSP" that is very expensive and scoots along at 1500 - 1600 fps;
- Stars and Stripes puts out a 95-grain round that approaches the sonic barrier but doesn't quite cross over.

nbender,
The report of my pistols are certainly loud, considering that they are subsonic. I had heard about the 9mm mak powrball ammo. I like that stuff in 9mm, but even then, I shoot it primarily in my Ruger, as I tend to think it's built a little bit better to take it. It seems to me that these P-64's are built pretty tough. Do you think that the pow r ball (Carbon) is too hot for the P-64?
Thanks for the information...

Because it's light, that PowRBall round doesn't have much recoil, even at that velocity. I think it's Ok for the P-64.
