New guy question on spring changes
I have read just about everything on the forum concerning spring changes since I bought my 1975 P-64 three days ago. When I picked up the gun the first time, I experienced double-action trigger shock and would have put it down immediately if I hadn't felt the smooth single action trigger. The more I looked at it, the more it grew on me. The price was right, the size was right, the caliber was good so I took the plunge and bought it. I was sure that the double action trigger could be improved and as it turns out, I was right. Objective- lighten double action trigger pull, do not lighten single action trigger pull, reduce felt recoil and have 100% reliability. My thoughts- change to 20-22# recoil spring to reduce felt recoil, go to 16# mainspring and check both single and double action trigger pull, reliability and magazine retention. If all is good, stay with setup. If not go to 18# mainspring and check. In addition, use hard primer ammo (Wolf , etc.) for practice and premium ammo for SD. I'm currently using 90 gr. Gold Dot as SD load. I would welcome your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks.

New guy question on spring changes
Thanks. I from what I read, others used a Wolff #16 PPK spring, but the #17 Wolff would be a better choice for me- no modification. That's the first I've read about pierced primers, most posts only mention misfires due to hard primers. I'd appreciate your thoughts on using a heavier recoil spring to reduce felt recoil.

New guy question on spring changes
I just read this thread on mainsprings. I changed mine out when I first bought it. I got a 16# spring from Wolff. The deal is, the spring was made for a PP. At the time I got the spring, I did not know they had springs made just for a P-64. Will this damage my gun? What # return spring do I need. Should I change my 16# spring out even though it works fine for me. Don't want to damage my P-64 because I really, really like this little gun. I know I can get good advice form you guys. Thanks

blinddog
If the 16# PPK hammer spring works in your gun use it . there was some reports of mag drops with the 16#PPK springs
WOLFF just started to make spring for the P-64

New guy question on spring changes
herk,
Welcome to the forum, your going to enjoy yourself and learn a lot from the moderators and pick up gems of info from the members, a real good bunch of guys here. I used the 17 lb. Walther hammer spring and the 22lb. P64 recoil, "Soooo sweet". You are not going to believe how accurate your little dynamo is at a distance. You will be equally amazed how fast and accurate double, triple and strings of taps are out to twenty plus feet. Welcome to the club.

New guy question on spring changes
I just installed a 22# recoil spring but haven't changed out the mainspring. I'm going to shoot it first and see how it feels. I had trouble getting the slide back on after I put the new recoil spring in so I did what Manicmechanic did and flattened the ends of the spring just a bit and that did the trick. The 17# hammer spring will be next and also the heavier firing pin spring that Wollf sent with the recoil spring.
