CZ-82 Cleaning / Paintjob

Post by carguy »

Will heavy duty cleaning solvents damage the "painted" finish on the CZ-82? I have cleaned and cleaned this but (as I said in my first posting about the CZ's condition) it has "grit" in the trigger assembly as well as the hammer. I can actually hear it with a slow pull of the trigger. I was afraid to attempt to pull the trigger assembly out due to some nasty posts at the CZ forum about not being able to get it back together (with all the required parts installed). So I was thinking of giving it a good soak and then blowing it out with compressed air. But I don't want to chance damaging the finish.

I have used gunKleen and gunblaster both on my CZ82 for a couple of years with no degradation in the finish as far as I can see.

I did get a bit on some CZ83 replacement grips and it ruined them fast.

I don't dip my pistols but I do drench them, then clean them.

I have had to paint my sights on a couple of times, but then I wanted to change the colors of those anyhow.

Here is a link to the explanation for the finish on a CZ82. It is still used by CZ on some pistols.

It is the 13th question down on the Q&A page.

That is exactly why I started this thread. I want to clean this thing up even more and would love to just break it down completely but I'm afraid I will have problems re-assembling. So I thought I'd try the soak and blow method (that I actually read in one of your postings somewhere) but I wanted to be sure that I didn't strip any paint off by mistake. Norm did it intentionally and I don't want to have to start stripping the rest off if I make a mistake.

Thanks for the reminder. 8~)

(I think I used breakfree to clean my Mosin, so that is what I have use here.)

I also buy WD 40 in a gal can and put it in a pump spray bottle and that shouldn't hurt finish , then blow off , then lightly oil with 20/ 50 motor oil and wipe off , lightly coat rails with wheel bearing grease
