I feel lucky cause I live in the country and can shoot rifle or pistol right out my back door. It does have it's downfall though... you burn up alot more ammo.
TTh,
I sure wish I could just walk outside and target practise. You're right about burning the ammo though. I think I'd be shooting the 22 caliber a whole lot more than I do now. :)

I think this is more like SEX! Too much is still not enough. It's been really tough to get to the range lately. My wife had been in the hospital from Easter for ten days, bowel obstructoin, she'll be scheduling surgery, atleast not emergency, mid May or later. Then you have the kids sports starting up and spring clean up in and outdoors, lawncare, it seems endless. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. This weekend after the soccer game in the morn, gunshow after lunch, a non lead free zone looks like a possibilaty. Usually I get to the range atleast 1-2 times a month. Haven't made it since Feb. so far. Too much on the plate, need to make the time. Maybe if I get the wife into shooting like my oldest daughter this would be easier said than done. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it! lol!

Manicmehcanic there is light keep looking! For years I didn't touch a gun, haven't belonged to a gun club and a while ago through 3 relocations for work I even let my CCW permit expire (since renewed). Health issues, kids, sports, "special schools" and work took up every waking hour. Now the kids are older (out of college) and trying to start their own lives (sort of) I have a lot more free time and a little more extra money (not much, gonna be paying for those schools/colleges for years). And like your older daugter, my son (20) is VERY interested and we spend lots of time together but instead of coaching or cheering him on we are shooting, cleaning and talking. The conversations start out about firearms then move into lots of other areas. It's great!

My problem (well, one of them), is the lack of good local ranges. The one downtown costs around $18 and only allows brass-cased ammo (so they sell Winchester 9x18 at $25 a box!!!). To by-pass that I have to drive for an hour up into the hills to Forest Service land to shoot, and it's bad road.

Anyway, I probably get out to shoot about once a month, and when I do it seems it's always rushed. I have to change my act. Later this spring I will investigate joining an outdoor range that's closer.

Your local indoor range needs some competition... >:(

Wonder what it would take to open one up, I'm sure I could undercut 'em!

stibnite, that would not be a profession for me, although I applaud gun shops and ranges that still exist in the current climate.

If I remember, we live in about the same area and you probably know the range I'm talking about. They have had multiple suicides - guys come in, rent a pistol, and end it all. Or, the gun shop end of the business sells a gun to a whacko and becomes nationally famous. Those businesses are for the stronger-of-heart than I am, and again I applaud all who can make a go of it.

Yes, you make some good points. I wouldn't want to get into that line either. Wish someone would though. It's all supply and demand.

I was at "that range" the other day - I usually don't spend a long amount of time there, and with a few purchased targets I figure it costs $40/hour to shoot on average.

My local public range charges $20 an hour (recently refurbished with heat for the winter!) and my (soon to be a member of) club cost $130 per year (24 hour access to the indoor range) with multiple outdoor ranges (hi power, sheet, shotgun, archery etc) and a stocked pond, I'm not sure if I shoot the fish with my Savage 22 or mosin nagant. 8~)

My nearest range is an indoor airconditioned 7 laner. $12.00 hr. or $8.00 1/2 hr. Another range about 20 miles or less is indoor but not airconditioned and charges 14.00 all day. You just have to hope that nobody comes in and holds hostages before shooting himself like happened a week or so ago.

Bobby J. Now that's a deathwish. Where I shoot, everybody on both sides of the counter is armed and there is usually several police officers, both retired and on duty. This thread has made me realize that ya'll are shooting a lot more than I am. I am going tonight and do some catching up. Later Don

I go once a month without fail, regardless of weather. Sometimes twice a month, if time permits. I always take a P-64. Everyone always wants to try it out and I always jet that thing where after they shot it, they hold it so they can look at the side of it and their jaw drops. It's remarkable.

The other weapons are pretty much in the "rotation".

Wish I could get my daughters interested in shooting. I've tried, but it's just "not what girls do, daddy." Maybe a Polish Barbie CZAK???
