Thanks for the information. You answered my question. I didn't know exactly what all the safety did....... Whether it just disconnected the trigger and decocked hammer only, or if it also blocked firing pin totally to prevent firing.....

Can I.... Insert loaded magazine, rack slide with safety OFF, which leaves hammer back, and decock hammer by turning safety ON? Or will this decocking of the hammer cause the gun to fire?

I know the gun will chamber a round with the safety on. I guess my question is, if I release the slide after racking it, it WILL NOT fire as long as safety is ON correct?

I'm kinda new to handguns. I already have a shotgun, two rifles and I've shot friends' guns of many different types. But I didn't know anything about how pistols work until I got my p64 a week ago. In order to carry the gun with a round chambered and safety on (of course), I can rack the slide with ...
