Any of you fellows who have used Cerama Coat on your hand guns, do you remember if it can be used on aluminum?
I just purchased a Star BKS that is in realy nice condition but needs a little TLC. I would like to do an all flat black pistol and if I can't use the Cerama Coat on the frame then I'll need to have it anodized.
I would appreciate any information you might have.

Based upon what it says on MidwayUSA, you can. It just says not to use on wood, plastics, and scopes.

And last but not least, here is an excerpt from the instructions:
"Cerama-Coat can be applied to the surface of any metal component that can safely withstand 350 degrees F. DO NOT attempt to use Cerama-Coat on wood, plastic, scopes, red dots, or other optical devices. Blued or Parkerized steel and anodized aluminum can be coated as is."

I think the important part is if it can withstand the temperature. If in doubt, call Wheeler Engineering and ask them: (573) 445-9200

just get some $8.00 ceramic header paint , not barbeque paint ,

I did this on a friend's gun in one day, with ceramic header paint, I use the oven to bake ,

Papabear and Norm, I sure wish I lived close to you fellows, sounds like you are haveing a good time when the oppertunity allowes. I've learned alot from the two of you and appreciate every little nugget that I glean here at the sight. That goes for the rest of you folks at the forum, this is a great bunch of people, male and female alike. Norm, I'll be heading to the automotive parts store tomorrow after I get out of the clinic.

Hay NORM, what brand of ceramic header paint are you using, the one brand that I found today required that you bake the metal at 250, 400 and 600 degrees respectively with at least one hour or until cool between bakes. I checked my oven and the best I can do is 550 degrees. I would like to pick up the product before the pistol arrives and may need to order from the manufacturer. I'm really excited about this project and am waiting to hear from you.
By the way, is the picture of the pistol hanging in the oven raw sand blasted metal or a finish that you used? Either way I really like it and may try to duplicate it if I can find the correct color. Thanks again for the information, can't wait to see how things turn out.

the one hanging up was sand blasted , whip down with alcohol you can change the bake time and temp. start low and work to highest tem at the highest tem and more time like 60 min at 500 it takes about 4 to 6 hour's to bake it on ,a alloy frame 500 degrees is high enough I think the only brand that's being made right now is VHT there used to another brand out there but VHT bought them out , you can bake the paint on 200 degrees at at something like 7 hours , or you can run it up in different stages

I like running up in different stages its a lot faster way to do it on the last stage let cool in oven all the way down
