FYI: Walther PP Safety Plunger Fits
I recently aquired a p64 and upon initial disassembly and inspection I found that the point on the safety plunger was worn and no longer "clicked" into the safety detents. On a hunch I ordered a new plunger and spring from numrich's for a walther pp for a few bucks. It fits perfectly and the safety has nice click to it now without making it too difficult to operate. I wasn't sure if this information was posted and I thought I'd share.

ohmysac, thats good to know. I have had problems with a 1968 P-64. I ground the detent so I would have a better point. Thanks for the info.

Great info! Now, if you could cross post in the "My Safety Drops" thread where ever it is, and give a link to the part number that would be outstanding :-*
Not to mention that it's easy for those suckers to boiiiiiing out and get lost...

ohmysac,
Appreciate the info, I do a lot of business with Numrich Gun Parts, they are top drawer and a good outfit to work with.

I'm glad to pass information along, that's what these places are for! I'll try to take it apart again and post some comparative pictures. I will also try to find the receipt to get the exact part numbers and post it in both this thread and in the "Safety Drop" thread.

Ok, I have removed my safety to snap some photos. New walther plunger and spring are on the left. Original p64 plunger and spring are on the right. The other photos are closeups of the plungers. You can see the point of the original plunger has worn flat.
The new spring is a little larger in diameter and a little longer. It is actually a walther extractor spring. On the walther, that particular spring does both jobs. It does feel slightly stronger than the original. I'm sure if you wanted to you could reuse the original spring. Note however that the plunger itself is slightly shorter than the original. If you used it with the original spring you will lose spring tension which may or may not be a problem.
The new spring and plunger fit nicely into the slide. Not tight at all.
Here are the part numbers to order from numrich:
205550 : Safety Catch Plunger, for Walther PP, PPK, PPKS $2.60
205530A : Extractor Spring, for Walther PP, PPK, PPKS $1.75
sorry if the pictures are too big, i can resize them if you guys want

Are there any other Walther parts...that fit the P-64?
I don't have a PP...it might be a worthwhile excersice for somebody that does...to do a "side-by side" conparison.
Odd Shot

Thanks Norm...
It would be a real good idea to compile a list of interchangability.
If that's a word.
I just have the feeling that Walther parts might just be a little better/stronger in the long run.
