Reloading the 9x18
Reloading the 9x18
I am thinking of setting up a reloading bench in the basement. But my house is over 100 years old and the basement is not all that great. More importantly it get really damp down there during certain times of the year. I have a dehumidifier down there but sometimes it can keep up ( or the wife changes the setting or turns it off)
Is this a problem? Should I find another place?

Reloading the 9x18
Where I live everyone gets water in their basement certain times of the year. I plan on running a dehumidifier and reloading in my basement. With that said I know some people that have a special room and they keep a dehumidifier running 24/7 to maintain low humidity. My neighbor, on the other hand, is 78 years old and has been reloading since the early 50's he reloads in his basement without a dehumidifier and doesn't have any problems. I say store the powder properly and and run a dehumidifier.

Hello Everyone! I'm just getting into reloading. I haven't received my Lyman T-mag Deluxe pro press kit yet but it should be here some time today. I've been out getting supplies over the last couple days. I also built me a reloading bench along with a Case tumbler. I bought Hodgdon and Winchester powders along with winchester primers. I picked up some Lee carbide 9x18markarov dies. I also picked up two boxes of Hornady XTP 9x18 Makarov .365 95 grain HP/XTP bullets $15ea. Now my question is has any one used these XTP hollow points in a P-64? Will they jam up or should they work just fine? These HP/XTP were all they had at the local shop so I picked some up to get me started. Think they been sitting there awhile they are Cardboard boxes with metal brackets at each corner. All the others are nice cardboard boxes or plastic ones. Here are some pics of them.

I have been reloading Hornady XTP for my P64. I load them in trimmed down 9mm brass as well as standard 9x18 brass. The easiest way to get the bullet seated at the right depth is to get sum Hornady XTP rounds and use a factory loaded round and set the die to the factory round.

Bass pro has a Lyman® T-Mag Expert Deluxe Reloading Kit for $299. Seems like a good deal. Is this what I need to get started? I suppose I need a set of dies too? I don't have a caliper either. What else do i need?

It has just about everything you need. Yes you will need a caliper and a few other items like flash hole cleaner, primer pocket reamer, and a few others just depends on how accurate you want your bullets to be.

I think you did real good there , I think a balance beam scale is a better scale its a lot easer to use , get you some of this http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?p ... ber=204960 and throw away that case lube pad you hate using it,
the lyman powder measure is the most accrete on the market and the best on the market today,
the case trimmer is great to
I tend not to like turret press , I like this kit better http://www.grafs.com/product/214884 but ever one is out of stock right now and prices are going up
but the Lyman press kits are the best bang for the buck , IMHO , you couldn't give me a LEE press,
everyone is out of 9 x 18 dies , http://www.leeprecision.com/ , http://www.lymanproducts.com try the factory's,
if you need a set of calipers , I like these http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=47257
for 25 years I never use a set of calipers

I just placed an order from Grafs for the Lyman kit and a set of dies, 9mm makarov. I may have waited too late though. Everything is on backorder, I guess we'll see how long that lasts. I didn't realize they were in Missouri, I had to pay sales tax, I wasn't ready for that.
25 years and never used a caliper? I assumed that the reason the few I have loaded wouldn't fit was because they were the wrong size and I didn't have a caliper to measure.

How do you lube your rifle cases if you don't use a lube pad. Do you just lube them by hand?

Norm thanks for all the input. Also any idea on how to setup the die for pressing those XTP bullets no place local seems to keep any real Makarov ammo in stock? Only wolf or American eagle. I'll have to check into some of that spray on Case lube. I used the reloading excuse to get me a real nice TESA Shop Cal caliper. I've been needing a real good caliper so the wife got me a good one. So is there a certain OAL and case head space gauges you guys recommend? I found a Hornady head space measurement tool at Bass pro along with a Lyman Case length gauge. Still need a few more items to get me under way. But I'm just about there. Should be turning out some rounds early next week.

I have a LEE trimmer for every cartridge I load , I trim one case with the LEE ,or yo can use an unfired case, use it to setup my lyman trimmer, then trim the rest of them ,on seating depth and dia.of the bullet for autos I use bullet that functions in the mag & gun , like the MFS cartridge's in 9 x 18 I have found they work in all my 9 x 18 hand guns, the case length is perfect , the dia. is .363 the over all length is perfect too, the XTP bullets you may have to seat them in a little farther down to get them to function in the P-64 and the PA-63 and polish the feed ramp , these gun were not made to shoot hollow pointed bullets
